This is me with Zoya. But I keep trying.

I have great luck with OPI - it and Sally Hansen are my two favorite nail polishes. I also like Essie a lot, but I get seven-day wear out of OPI and Sally consistently and Essie less so.

I wonder what makes some polishes work so well for some but not for others?

Yom, what top coat did you use?

ETA: I have a probably with China Glaze, not OPI as stated earlier. Never used OPI. Whoopsie.

My minx. They're really raggedy because I cut them in half to save the rest...

I did not use a topcoat, kayb. I never seem to have any luck with topcoats.

Do you recommend using one?

Yes, definitely. They're supposed to prevent chipping, and they definitely keep you polish looking shiner, for longer. The one I use (the Jordana one from earlier) is okay, but I'm guessing that they are better ones out there. Granted, Jordana would be a repurchase if I could find it.

Any suggestions for top coat out there, ladies?

ETA: I just saw that Essie has one called "no chips ahead," has anyone used that one? Okay, just saw you tried that one.
Have to run now, but I'll be back to talk about peeling/extra layers.

I am ALL off schedule for my manicures. It happened over the holidays while my family was here - too much going on! I normally paint my nails on Sunday evenings, but I skipped a Sunday over the holidays, then didn't do them until Thursday and now I'm all off schedule. I'm trying to wait this one out 'til Sunday. I need to do a few minor touch-ups tomorrow...

I keep the same manicure for at least a week to 10 days, sometimes even longer. I dislike the new growth line at the cuticle so that is the reason I never use a top coat. I use 2 coats of polish on day 1 and then 3-5 days later I add a layer of my regular polish that covers up the growth line and edge wear and adds shine so it looks like a fresh manicure.

Of course this doesn't work if you have decorations on all your nails. I only do a couple accent nails and just touch them up.

I got my Zoyas! I have Roxy on my fingers and Daul on my toes. If the glitter in Roxy were smaller, it would be total perfection. I still really, really like it. I like Daul, but not as much as I thought I would. I wish there were less gold glass fleck shimmer in it. (I can't believe I just said that either.) I like it, but I'll have to see it on my fingers before I make up my mind. Next mani on the docket is Zoya Kristen.

I'd love to see Daul on your fingers (or toes). I almost got it, it's still on my wish list.

Okay,back to peeling/layers.

I usually do about that much layers, and have only had three polishes peel on me, and it only happened once. I found out it had less to do with the layers and more to do with how far down to the cuticle I painted.

I think not all polishes work well with a top coat so there is some degree of trial and error, but for the most part a top coat does, I believe, work to prevent chipping. It certainly can help you get past 2/3 days.

Because I have used the Jordana and it works well for me, I think I will recommend that to you.

It's called "Tough Stuff" and its base/top coat combo.

Let me/us know if you have any more questions and what you decide.

What nail polish do you have on at the moment?-imageuploadedbycurltalk1358462388.742811.jpg

Okay so I did my nails. I cleaned them with an acetone based remover before I applied a thin layer of Essie's rock solid base coat. Then i applied three thin layers of Mavala's bronze green and "capped" the ends of my nails. I used Essie's no chips ahead top coat.

Let's see how it works out in a couple of days...

I got my Nail Aid peeling nail stuff! I'm excited to try it out. RCC, do you use it as a base coat by itself or do you use a separate base coat?
-----------------
My cuticles are growing so fast lately. I swear, I just cleaned them up 3 days ago and they're already trying to grow up on the nail already! If only my nails grew that fast...LOL

That's the way I was leaning, too. It seems too slippery to work as a base coat.

Thank you, pedaheh.

Sew & Sew, your pink manicure is beautiful.

Why can't I like from this app!? I love too many manicures, so consider yourselves liked.

I was in the mood for something lighter. Essie Nothing Else Metals (pre clean up).
