See, that's why I can't get offended when people say that Americans are stupid. It's not accurate for most, but it's certainly a fair assumption. Our media showcases and legitimizes the stupidest among us. We have Sarah Palin, who people love because they find her so "relatable." We have politicians who don't believe in evolution and think creationism should be taught in our public schools--as well as believe in abstinence only sex education--not only being engaged as if their opinions are valid, but actually winning elections; we have the Teabaggers all over the news; we have FoxNews.

So if Americans aren't dumb, are you going to tell me that the French don't smell bad, Germans aren't cold and unfeeling, Asians aren't all good at math, and Canadians aren't all really dull and friendly!?!?
Ya'll are talkin' crazy. Now please excuse me while I go clean my rifle and watch FoxNews.

Don't forget that the English tend to be cold and stand-offish and that Mexicans are lazy.
I'm so glad that we're perpetuating stereotypes.....

There are stupid people everywhere. It doesn't matter the country as pointed out multiple times already by other posters. Obviously this county is the superpower, and superpowers don't become so because people can't answer trivia questions correctly. Which btw, some of those peoples answers were hilarious! I personaly loved the Kegistan question lol!!
I'm more worried about the individual person who basis their opinion about Americans over 1 stupid video on youtube. It's way more alarming to me that a person can hear 1 thing and take it as truth without having solid evidence supporting it.
Considering the fact that we have no clue how many people were interviewed, and how many people did get a correct answer. It's not a secret that the media edits what they record to favor their "report".

God, I just can't wait for the day that maybe a Muslim or Arab country becomes a superpower. That way I can say that I want to invade America as my next plan, because they're just so annoying. Or something. And it would be so funny!
LOL!
Oh! And maybe I'll know how to correctly spell and pronounce the name of that country that I'm invading.
LOL!
So sorry-this is not the only video that shows stupid Americans. And no, its not only the videos that show this.

Thankfully for me I have a teenager who is going through puberty, so I'm not even remotely offended by anything you just said.
You do realize anyone could spend the time searching youtube to find multiple videos of stupid people from many different countries right? Oh I know you do, and it really is pointless to keep engaging.

Oh and I forgot that people from Muslim and Arabic countries are terrorists. If we're going to continue to perpetuate stereotypes it's best not to leave anyone out.

Ya, many people who are terrorists are also Muslims. At least I have the courage to admit it.
I also posted a long post about Arab and Muslims faults, yet you have ignored it. But I guess you just don't want to admit the truth so you'd rather attack me instead.
It's very ineteresting to see that someone with a teenage child (meaning you are probably older and have more experience than me) is LOLing about people wanting to start a war. Carry on with your indenial, you are right, this discussion is fruitless. I am ready to accept that the nation I've come from makes huge mistakes, but you are not.

Have you lost your mind? I'm laughing at the stupid peoples responses. You are way over the top drama.
If you don't like the fact that I'm more worried about people who use youtube to generalize billions of people, well you just have to get over that. If you think you can keep throwing insults at me in an attempt to bother me, put that on the get over list too. Nowhere have I mentioned anything about my opinion on wars. Seems you are a big time generalizers. So yes, sarasara, I worry about people exactly like you in this world. Those are the ones that I hope my kids and all those people around me can see right through and not get caught up in your hyper drama thoughts.
You are the one who started this thread. If you're gonna dish it you'd better be ready to take it. Which is apparent, you can't. Slam me all you want, your way to annoying for me to bother to care what you think or comment anymore.

Geez, look who's talking about drama. Someone who went crazy when I posted a video and asked if it's fake or not.

Exactly, and many of us are embarassed. And yes it totally matters when powerful people who make important decisions in the world are stupid and want to change the way other people live.
Totally agree with this too.

I agree with legends.
Also not offended by sarasara's rantings....I think this myself sometimes, especially when people drive around in pickup trucks with the confederate flag and NAAWP bumper stickers on them. And when Sarah Palin is loved and adored for being a "real" American. And when George W. Bush is allowed to spend like a fiend for 8 years and we should be thankful, but Barack Obama is spending us into oblivion after only 2 and only helping republicans out.
Go figure.

I feel like people in other countries hold us accountable for **** our government does because we're constantly going on and on about how great our ideals are (specifically, democracy, the republic, voting, elections, freedom to the nth power). To an extent, we ARE accountable. We vote these *******s in or sit passively by and don't vote. We seem to be content to let our government do whatever as long as we have minimal taxes and can do whatever we want when we want. LOL

Finally, sarasara, are you still in Japan? I ask because this sort of inquiry/rant is not uncharactersitic when you're experiencing culture shock. Just saying this after reading some of your thoughts on Japan.

I don't think of sarasara as a troll, I never called her a troll. But what NCC said still stands. One doesn't have to be a troll to bait people.
===
I think a lot of what sarasara said in post #59 has relevance. Of course it does. But her approach could use some … refinement.
Like I said, it's all a bit rich when she's whining and acting fairly bratty [in the thread after she just moved to Japan, or in one of her many dating threads, for example] and many of us took the time to give her sage advice and positive feedback. Then she turns around and labels many of her erstwhile comforters as stupid.
Give me a break.
Then again, maybe we really are stupid. Stupid for engaging with sarasara in the first place. Shame on us.

Yup, I'm still in Japan! I'm not sure I can say I'm still having a culture shock though (if culture shocks are only considered negative). Although I am going through a phase where I'm starting to see Japan as the most perfect place on Earth, that everyone here is an angel and that bad things just don't happen when Japanese people are involved. Obviously that's not completely true but right now in the midst of it all I believes it applies to Japan more than anywhere else I've been to. I might change my mind as I stay longer or I might never will, as I've seen some foreigners who have lived here for a very long time yet seem to be still in love with Japan in the same way.
