HOUSE MUSIC: Who Loves It?

IMO house is kind of like jam bands. I can see how they would each be fun to listen to on the appropriate drugs, but they're boring as hell sober.

Sorry, FF!

Like my wine but don't do drugs and can dance all night as long as I am listening to great house tracks. It's cathartic for me. I can release my joy or get over all sorts of pain with house - it's how I worship and how I heal my hurts!

This thread has been so therapeutic. I was feeling quite disconnected but bonding with other house lovers (attending church) and hearing the music (worshipping) just thawed me out! I am beginning to feel like myself again - THAT is the beauty of house. It always reminds you of your own beauty. Really, house music facilitates a (re)connection with the divine. Then you are so secure in your own innate beauty and value that you do not feel threatened by anyone else because you know that we are all valuable and life does not have to be a competitive zero-sum scenario. According to Starhawk's Fifth Sacred Thing: 'There is a place for you at the table'. I take that to mean there is a place for everyone at the table if they want to a cohesive cooperative existence rather than a competitive dominance-based one.

I'm enjoying my Monday morning soundtrack, thanks to you all!

There really is something about this music for me. FF, you explained it very well! I can't really dance to other music, I always feel self-conscious. But dancing to house, I lose myself. I dance with a huge smile on my face!

Was a blast from the past to hear Armand Van Helden's You Don't Know Me - sigh ... memories (hand over heart).

Moloko's Sing It Back and Modjo's Lady were songs that friends and I used to shout along to from the dance floor as we dripped in sweat!

Was great fun to go through your list ... so many favorites and when I heard Olive's You're Not Alone I gave a little woohoo! I LOVE that song so much!!! I will be downloading it from iTunes for my Workout Playlist! The version I was listening to had a bit of a jungle underbeat that was really nice... Gonna play it again and do my little shoulder dance :-)

Hope you don't mind that I added in links for your songs.

I can dance with myself or the speakers, doesn't matter. A friend of mine - committed to house like nothing else, I mean it is all she listens to - from years of dancing with the speakers has lost some hearing in one ear but she swears it was for the greater good
