HOUSE MUSIC: Who Loves It?

"It's a spiritual thang" .. and I loooove it "hard, dark, and sexy". I'm a natural born disco baby, and if you put a conga or timbale anywhere near me my a s s will move to it.

I also dj'd for several years (1999 - 2006), sold my equipment to pay some bills a few years ago, but kept all my crates of vinyl. I have to repurchase my Technics because life is short and I *NEED* to get back into it. I play mostly (hard) tribal, progressive, tribal techno, disco house, etc... I love me a good peak hour, and love to play for people.

I can't give you a complete track listing but some of my favorite DJs/Producers/Artists/Labels are:

John Creamer
Josh Wink
Masters At Work
Danny Tenaglia (of course)
Armand Van Helden
Robbie Rivera
Celeda
Kevin Aviance
Yoshi Toshi Records
Eight Ball Records
Star 69
Peter Rauhofer
and many many more..

I LOVE that John Creamer tune - Away. F-'n awesome!

And THANK YOU for the Josh Wink suggestion - THAT song "Higher State of Consciousness" is a classic - hands down! Now THAT buildup blows my mind every. single. time. O.M.G.

LOVE Armand van Helden's Witch Doktor!

We live for the music, baby!

Celeda's Be Yourself (produced by Tenaglia?) rocks me without a doubt.

Like Kevin Aviance's Din Da Da!

The Underground[/url] has become my new anthem. Thank you so much for this fantastic song! You know I was overseas at a club and once heard a song that give me the thrill of my life and I could never remember the name of it but I knew the beat and I think this is it! I am so stoked right now to have finally found my song 10 years later!

What about these - I think of them as the companion tracks to the Underground because they are closely associated in time in my memory:
Welcome to the Jungle: YouTube - Thick Dick Presented By E Smoove - Welcome To The Jungle
Keep Control: YouTube - keep control
Elements: YouTube - Danny Tenaglia - Elements (Live In Miami)
Hide U:YouTube - Kosheen - Hide U (John Creamer & Stephane K remix) (Original Vocal Test Press)
Tons of versions of all of these. They were pretty huge.

As for my dj days.. most of them were spent in my bedroom but I did play out live at a few events. If you hung out in Washington Heights back in the very late 90s-early 2000s you may have heard of the "Secret Garden" parties.. I played there once and at a few other intimate events. Green Man Lounge in Hoboken anyone...anyone?

Have never been to the Ultra Music Fest. Have you? What's it like? Noticed Armin van Buuren is part of the line up on the 27th. LOVE him!

What is the WMC? Have you been? Is it nice?

I think being able to DJ is an awesome skill. Especially as a Woman in a male-dominated field. Kudos!

As for WMC it's the must-go-to event if you are in any way connected to the house music industry. There's a high price to enter, but you get back a lot in education and networking, as well as fun.

This year I am not registered to go to the educational parts of any of the events, but I hope to go to some of the parties. Once I get my turntables back I will definitely go as someone promoting myself as a dj who wants to be out there working the decks at the clubs & making people move. The good thing about being a "lady dj" is that I am outnumbered by men who at first may underestimate me, but once they hear my selection they tend to respect me and forget that I have XX chromosomes. I am a lot rusty right now, but it's just a matter of practicing to get the skills back.

It's cathartic for me. I can release my joy or get over all sorts of pain with house - it's how I worship and how I heal my hurts!

I wanna go to Ultra! If I had known about it earlier I would have made plans - damn!

I will be there in 2012 for sure! We need to start getting a group together!
