low carb eating for a healthy weight

I believe you can have real Whipping Cream in your coffee / tea on Atkins induction. However it's limited to 2 - 3 T a day.

Also not all veggies are allowed on induction.

Good Luck!

I thought minimum caffeine is okay?

I'm only eating the acceptable veggies...will be excited to add to this in the next week or so.

i haven't followed atkins religiously but i have avoided carbs from rice, pasta, breads and potatoes. i eat a reasonable portion of protein and veggies galore. i only had corn once so mostly the green stuff. i've had tons of water and green tea as well as the good oils. i've had raw sugar in coffee once, a few pieces of hard candy here and there, greek yogurt w/ fruit that i wasn't going to waste and some wine on a couple of occassions. i haven't had any baked sweets (i gave that up for lent among other things anyway).

anyway, i can tell a difference. i opted not to weigh but just go my how my clothes felt, how i feel and how my face looks (i.e. is it puffy). i'll continue this until my trip and even when i return. it is a better way to eat. i will begin eating fruit again though. i think i'll continue to avoid the baked treats. except very rare occassions. i was consuming them way too frequently.

wile e....the concert was great! the air wasn't working the best but i had on a strapless top so i was fine.

No fair lovmylocs...your suppose to weigh so I know if this thing will work. I understand though....going by clothes works wonders.
Atkins never worked for me. Tried it 2 or 3 times.
No MAS.

i went ahead and weighed. i'm down 4.6 lbs. i knew i felt a bit different. my results would have been MUCH better but i didn't give up alcohol at all. i've been sipping sangria and other red wine like always!

i leave for my trip on monday but i'm going to keep eating this way, minus bread and heavy carbs, baked goods, good protein and veggies at meals. it's really not even that hard.

I'm down 148.5...frustrated because I haven't lost anything since Saturday...and I haven't cheated. I'm wondering if I'm eating less than I should be...hard to tell.

I'm fine with slow weight loss..but it's been really hard not to eat the birthday cake with my Nanny or popcorn with my kids on movie night. I'm going to stick with it though until at least Friday. Then I will jump back on after 2 days of travel. Traveling will be a little hard to keep up with the veggies and protein. I can take some good snacks with me...but it's my anniversary on Friday...so I feel like splurging.
Just checking in! I'm down to 145.0. My lowest weight since the 1st trimester with my son (he's 4 1/2).

I will say after those first 2 weeks of being strict...I backed off on the weekends. I'm good all week...then the weekends I allow myself to splurge. I'm pretty much doing phase 2 stuff during the week...then on the weekends....I have popcorn or dessert with kiddos. I cut where I don't really care ...such as hamburger with no bun....because I'd rather have popcorn than the bun on my hamburger. Seems to be working...I go up about a pound on the weekend...but it comes right back off.

I think I could probably keep this up pretty good. I really have 5 more pounds to go for my goal...hopefully posting doesn't jinx me. I love that all the summer pants I bought last year are too big...or I'm having to belt them. I'm probably down about 15 pounds from last summer.

Woo Hoo!

How is everyone else doing?
that's great inheritedcurls!

i too have been stick with it in a modified way. it works!! my thinking is just like yours, unless it's something i really want i skip the carbs. low carb eating really isn't that hard if you just stop to think before you eat. i feel better and have less face puffiness. i also focus on getting in good protein and lots of veggies. it works. i still don't eat many sweets. i actually haven't weighed recently but i feel lighter. i'm also doing insanity now so i'm trying to increase my burn on both ends, from nutrition and exercise.

anyway, keep it up. hope others chime in!

I started low carbing again this year after putting on a lot of weight in my middle last year.

I've lost 25 pounds so far, and a whopping 7.5 inches from my waist. I have a family full of insulin resistant folks, and the midsection weight gain last year proved that I can become diabetic like so many of them.

I've been working a lot with George Stella's cookbooks for variety inspiration.

ETA: my goal range is 150-165, and I just got to 165, so that's a relief.

Congrats redcelticcurls...25 pounds is awesome! You will be at your goal before you know it.

luvmylocs...I'm doing the same thing...still exercising and dieting. Seems to be working. I'm starting to see less fat on the waistline and my legs are getting toner. I also notice a huge difference in my face...it's probably the leanest I've seen in a long time. I need new bras as all my ones I bought 15 pounds ago are huge. I'm waiting though until the end of May when I head to my niece's wedding
Thanks for this thread! After maintaining a 30 lb weight loss for 1.5 yrs, I've started to notice the weight beginning to creep back on. I'm up 10 lbs and need to nip that right away. I'm pulling out my low carb recipes and throwing away the junk food that has found its way back in my house. Darn chocolate....

yeah for all the success we're seeing! this really has to be a lifestyle and way of eating. once i switched to think there are no bad foods, just less desireable ones and i limited them the weight has decreased plain and simple. the other side of the equation is eating more of the good foods. i still do greek yogurt w/ the fruit on the side (carbs) but it's okay. even when i do have carbs, like say rice with asian food, i still eat a lot less than i did. sneaky little tricks pay off! my goal was to not look chubby in my vacations pics and it was mission accomplished.

i'm glad we brought this up again too!

I'm glad it came up again too. I don't know many low carbers IRL, since most think it will make you fat and give you a heart attack. I've been getting some side eyes when people ask me what I've been eating because it goes against the grain. Pun intended.

I'm mostly meat and veggies. I just feel better with greatly reduced grains, or have them when I eat out.

I'm averaging about 25 grams of fiber per day, so I seem to be ok on that end. People just think you (gy) need starch and/or grain at every meal.

I lost my weight originally doing the southbeach plan - which is very similar to Atkins, but has more emphasis on low fat proteins. I'm not a huge starch eater(bread, pasta, potatoes, rice), so that was never much of an issue - for me - it's more the sweet/fat combo - ie: cookies, ice cream, chocolate bars. I need to get back to having a piece of fruit for my sweet fix. And I did that successfully for more than a year, so I know it's possible. I just gotta DO IT!

I'm doing the same. If I mention Atkins...people roll their eyes...as to unhealthy fat...but if you eat good veggies and lean protein...it's really not. I still don't cook with butter ...I use olive oil... I still use all my normal seasonings. I do eat steak or pork...but I eat more chicken and turkey (not a big fish eater). I do eat eggs and bacon some mornings..or sometimes it's an Atkin shake. I eat plain almonds, sunflower seeds, strawberries with cream. I still have a diet coke...or coffee with half and half.

What I don't have is popcorn for a snack every afternoon...or pancakes, waffles, bread, spagetti. potatoes, fries, mac n cheese, chips. Like you said redcelticcurls...I eliminate all those bad starchy foods and eat more veggies and lean protein. I won't say I never have these..but they are far and inbetween. If the chips are out...I'll have a couple... Weekends...I do have bread or mexican w/ chips and salsa. Having those non-guilt weekends...really help keep me on track.
Hey Everyone,

Just checking in. I'm down to 141.0. One pound from my goal weight and 4 pounds from my pre-baby weight (although body fat % is not the same LOL). I do fluctuate around a pound...pound 1/2 but 141.0 is my lowest. I haven't been as good this month during the week..but I'm still losing slowly. I've been getting back on track this last week.

Still exercising 3 to 5 days a week for about an hour.

How is everyone else doing?
i haven't weighed at all in awhile. i need to. i feel lighter, clothes fitting better. i still have some room to reduce carbs. i'll try to be more focused this week.

congratulations on your success inheritedcurls!! impressive!!
