low carb eating for a healthy weight

Like Tree25Likes

Welcome Amneris! Somebody had a book on here at one time about breastfeeding the weight off. I can't remember what the diet was...might look into it for some good tips to help you not loose that great supply you have.

Lo Carbing has been the only way I got the baby weight off. I tried to go back to counting calories...just didn't seem to work as well...maybe it was because I didn't have the muscle as before? My guess is my body and metabolism just changed after 2 babies.
I found this thread on low carb and breast feeding.

It seems that a mid-carb option could work, and that's pretty much what you talked about in your post, so it sounds like you're headed on the right track.

Hey Everyone!!!

Just checking in (I use this thread as an accountability check). I have hit my goal weight 140. I have seen 139.0 so maybe I can actually get down to my pre-baby weight. Working out in this heat has been difficult but I am still seeing results...muscle is coming around. Woo Hoo! I'm hoping once this lovely 100 degree heat in Texas goes away...I can push harder with running and weight lifting.

How is everyone else doing?

I'm moderate low carbing. I'm cutting out sugars, except for fruit, and am reducing pastas and the like.
Great info - thanks! The weight is melting off and I am not craving anything so so far, so good - I know sooner or later I will hit a plateau and have to just keep on keeping on. I am trying to find a gym with childcare and trainers as well.

This weekend will be a bust though...lol. DS birthday...so there will be chips, queso, brisket, cake, ice-cream. Yum. Although I will elminate the bun...try to eat more of the veggie tray. Then add the wine I will drink with my BF after our kids go to bed that night.

Amneris, Congrats on your success. I wish I had been able to get the weight off right after the kiddos were born.

Okay, so question for all you low-carbers. Do any of you have any issues with constipation on this diet?

I am just now recovering from being really sick...it started with constipation...my straining caused me to get hemorroids. It was like someone was sticking something in the wrong place...I couldn't sleep at night for almost 2 weeks...because I would feel like I needed to go to the bathroom...I finally went to the doctor...gave me some cream and told me to take MiraLax powder for a month to keep everything soft... I was also taking 2 Motrin every 4 hours to help with the pain for 2 weeks...I slowly backed off it the other week...it's been since the weekend that I've taken any motrin. I added also that 2nd week a dose of Metamucil in the morning and one for the evening. I started finally feeling normal this week (going on 4th week). I just now went back to working out (lightly)...after 3 week break from this.

I know we are suppose to go to the bathroom once a day...but I was thinking my body was just using everything I was eating....didn't realize how bad it was getting. I did go..usually on weekend after I add high carb foods.

My thought is this diet...it's hard to get good fiber on this diet.. I was eating salads, greens but not fruit like apples, pears, or beans (high carb). I have these issues anyway but it feels like this diet maybe exasperated the problem? Maybe I didn't do the diet right? What foods do you eat on this diet with lots of fiber?

Thanks!
No, but I'm really careful to get fiber. I get about 25 grams a day. I use flax meal a good bit and I eat a lot of avocados. Depending on the source, an avocado had 6-13 grams of fiber.

My flax meal muffin has 8 grams if fiber.

The low carb tortilla I buy at TJs has 7 grams of fiber.

Salads aren't as fiber full as they tend to be touted.

I go twice a day on average, so the plumbing works.

Do you make your muffins or buy them?

I didn't realize avocado...had that much fiber. I'll buys some. I'd like to replace the metamucil with food fiber if possible....while keeping it low carb.
Here's a basic recipe.

I use butter instead of oil since I like the taste better. There are many variants out there, and some use sugar free syrups for flavor.

Most cook it in a coffee mug. I use a ramekin. I just take it in my lunch for a snack.

I found the key to any weight loss is not to just diet but do a sensible healthy diet change.

Aside from the common suggestions of limiting sugar, high carbs and sodium – don’t replace them with ‘diet’ type or chemically enhanced foods – instead look for more natural, raw, wholesome foods (think foods without labels or foods with 5 natural ingredients or less) .

I always say, people would be amazed at how good coffee tastes minus the cream and sugar.

Speaking of cream or milk – there is a lot of sugar in regular milk so foods like that you have to take into consideration for thought - also food allergies (gluten, yeast, dairy and others) - they have a lot to do with weight.

Don't deprive yourself, have sushi once in a while but also step up your game during your workout to combat it and it's a win win situation.

This may not work for a quick weight loss but it is good to adhere to for long term. Good luck!

For some reason the directions aren't coming up...You mix it up and then you can cook it in a coffee mug? In the microwave or oven? For how long?

Thanks!

Good for you! Here's what I've been eating lately:

breakfast: scrambled eggs w/veggies mixed in OR Greek yogurt with blueberries

lunch: several small "sandwiches" made of carved turkey breast, swiss cheese, mustard and tomato between two leaves of romaine lettuce; assorted veggies on the side

dinner: some type of meat, grilled or broiled; grilled or roasted veggies on the side; side salad

snacks: raw nuts, fruit, 1 or 2 squares of 72% dark chocolate (I keep to no more than 2 squares/day); cheese stick; chopped celery or baby carrots

Plus I have 1 - 2 glasses of wine in the evening - a girl's gotta live a little!

Good luck!
