GIRLFRIENDS who try and COPY your style?

Maybe because I was a child when it happened...
But you're not a child anymore. And you still haven't put it into perspective.

My clothes: Since my reduction in the summer I only wore tube tops..She never ever wore them till I did, even buying the same EXACT shirts..She buys the EXACT same jeans, belts, jewelry, boots as me..What REALLY REALLY pissed me off is when we were going X-mas shopping and I happened to see this VERY seXxy red very dressy tube top style shirt to wear this friday for girls night out. When we left the store she told me she was going to look for a RED shirt that was SEXIER then the one I brought..UGH!!!

Maybe all the hooker clothes come in red this season?

I don't mind if someone else buys something I have -- I've liked things my friends have worn and asked them where they got it. However, I think I'd be weirded out if someone wanted to copy everything I wore ... it's too Single White Female, I think I'd be uncomfortable.

I remember WAY back in first year of school (in Uk that's age 12-13) and I was quite an oblivious kid. No slow maturing bodily, but I was happy to wear whatever fitted and just run around outside playing in trees. So a few of my friends 'matured' fashion wise first, and were conscious of what they were wearing. When I realised I was lagging behind I did 'copy' slightly but only for reassurance that I was fitting in. For example, she bough Ellesse shoes, so I bought shoes similar by the same brand but not THE same. I think it did bug a few of my friends that I was doing it but at 13 girls are *****y. But once I got over the initial ' I have to fit in' I wear what I want.

But dressing the same is kinda pack instinct. Here in Scotland you've got the Emo kids, the Goth kids, the Mosher kids, the Neds (sports clothes) the grunge kids, the going-out kids. They all dress exactly the same, and its so they can distinguish what group they're in. Adults do it to a lesser extent I'm sure.

But I do have one friend now who also has blonde curly-ish hair, but its a lot thinner and wavier than mine,a nd she doesn't really look after it to show off the curls (despite that i've given wee tips.) Anyway, she is quite an uninspired person and just wears whatever, but if i'm wearin ga particularly nice outfit she'll try imitate the style (eg. a hooded zippie under a blazer, with a vest top underneath and cord pants) Not the exact same clothes but the same style. I do take it as a compliment I guess although it can irk me sometimes.

And what is up with RCC comment and the response up there? I am SO lost.

cleanse: OS shampoo. PureNuffStuff cleanser.
condition: Aussie 3MM. Jessicurl Aloeba.
style: B2Basics GreenTeaGel. T&G Curl Balm. JCarter Nourish&Shine.

I used to have a friend who would try to do everything the same as me - including dress like me, say the same types of things, etc. It annoyed me so much. But what bothered me MORE was that she'd act like she'd gotten the idea to dress or act a certain way, and I copied her.
It was so obnoxious - we're no longer friends.

It was annoying in high school, and shortly after.

When I got older, I had one friend that was older than me that would try and copy me ALL the time. Even our wedding invitations and dresses were similar, etc. At that point, and now, I think it's kind of pathetic...

If I did see someone copying me now, I don't think that I would really say that it was "copying" just that we have the same interests.
My cousin does this..I don't know why..it is not flattering at all. She looks like she does not have any imagination at all.

I believe there was a movie about that very subject (Single White Female). If it gets to the point where your roomate throws your dog off the balcony and kills your boyfriend, then, yes it's a problem. Otherwise, groups of girls do tend to dress alike and there is always some conceited one in the bunch who thinks she started the trend and gets all assy that everyone is "copying" her...makes me go

Most girlfriends are girlfriends because of some mutual interests and tastes. As a result, it would be the rare friend who did not share some tastes with me, and I would not construe a similar look in dress or home as copying. Years ago, my best friend and I both went to the same store at different times and both bought the same loveseat. Mine was in the store with the "sold" sticker on it, when she ordered hers. And it's a very peculiar loveseat. Other things like that have happened, which some might conclude to be her copying me. In reality though, these things are because we think alike and have similar tastes. So we often end up in the same place in terms of "look."

let me guess, you are one of the copiers?

I just like to point out hypocrisy and pompousness whenever I see it.

Helpfully,
A tube top is "hooker clothes?"

What do some people on this site have against tube tops?

Who wears tube tops "every day"? Hookers and hooker wannabes. That's my impression whenever I see them anyway. Why else would a woman want to walk around in clothes that say "look at MY tit$...aren't they FABulous".

To quote Bill Maher, who was speaking about the current trend of trashy clothing on women:

"You know who I feel sorry for? The whores. I mean, what can a whore wear anymore to show that she's really a whore?"

I think it's a little bit of projection to assume she was flaunting her breasts - but who cares if she thinks they're fabulous? If she doesn't, who else will? More people should think they are fabulous and then there wouldn't be so many miserable, bitter folk walking around carping on other people. Are people who only wear shorts in the summer thinking their legs are fabulous? Anyone who only wears flip flops must think they have perfect feet? People who always wear their hair down and never tie it up must think their hair is better than everyone else's?

Plus how does what you wear define you as a hooker or a whore? Your behaviour does that. People "show" they are "whores" by how they act, not how they dress. Zaria is married with kids and has never indicated she is promiscuous or has sex for money. I don't think that it's very kind to women to toss around the word whore.

Sorry...tube tops are a trashy, skanky look. I do so wish women would value themselves more than just for their bodies. It's sad what has become of women in America.

There is a middle ground between inconspicuous and tasteless. Bodies have surpassed brains in terms of value for many women. It does not empower women to be praised only for their beauty and bodies. It devalues them, and it devalues women as a group.
