Lmao I love it! I just can't stop watching it. There is also a royal wedding special episode too which is great. It's just hilariously funny to watch...but also insightful at the same time since I do see some gypsys from time to time where I work or occasionally near my school. All in all it's a strangely addictive watch

Its like watching a train wreck or something. I watched it over here and couldn't stop.

It was pretty enlightening about the culture - which if Im honest filled me with feminist horror even while I tried to keep an open mind.

I can't...

I mean, I don't even...

No. Words.

Train wreck is an understatement...fascinating.

Yes, I posted about it on Say It a few days ago. I can't wait to see it.

I found it pretty interesting. I watched 1 full episode..the first one. It made me sad how prejudice some people are towards them just because they are travellers/gypsies.

I know they said the girls were very chaste and everything.. and they are very religious people. Which I tend to believe. But I wonder what's the deal with the outfits at the receptions.. you know the stuff that looks like they got it all from some sort of lingerie store or something. I wonder how come they wear it like instead of just regular dresses.

I understand the big deal with the wedding dresses. A lot of cultures like to go all out for weddings..but the reception wear that the ladies wore..very odd. When I saw that one pregnant woman in the corsette thingy I was like.. "Um why ?"

Did anyone see the gigantic pink dress? Crazy...

It is hard to believe how chaste the girls are but dress like sparkly hookers.

It is really hard to match their way of the girls never living with or asking out a boy and no sex before marriage, but at 6 years old they have them dressing like hookers and dancing like they're in a club droppin' it like it's hot.

I'm on episode 3 and it's really interesting.

It's like they're required to play simultaneously to both extremes of ideal female behavior in popular culture. It also kinda seems like they're advertising to catch a mate before they have the chance to sin. I can't watch the video on the article and haven't looked up any others, but I feel panicky just thinking about that "ritual."

I felt sick whenever they talked about how they weren't allowed to do anything, but also had to put up with 'grabbing'.

The "grabbing" made me super uncomfortable.

Now why is it that this ethnic group is frowned upon? Is it just random racism/prejudice?

No. I'm can admit that I know next to nothing about this ethnic group. And what I've read when trying to figure it out just seems like regular old prejudice.

There's a lot of prejudice against Gypsies here. People do not like them and will protest if they stay anywhere near their homes - and the government tends to back them up.

Here are some reasons:

They don't have a permanent residence - hence, "travelers" - which makes them even more unlike "normal" society. And the fact that they're, um, colorful enough to warrant an entire TV series alludes to some reasons why people might discriminate against them (meaning, people often discriminate against anything/anyone different).

I guess I'm confused...because you started the thread and they're obviously a pretty unique group. That's enough to prejudice people against them.
