^ ditto. I don't understand remaking classic, well loved, popular movies. I couldn't bring myself to watch Footloose or Carrie. And if they ever remake Dirty Dancing (not the Havana Nights sort of remake) or Flashdance I won't watch them.
And I usually hate the remakes I do end up watching - Psycho anyone?

I was not going to watch Footloose but I ended up being talked into it. I should have stood my ground. It could not get much worse.

I typically do watch horror remakes to see if anyone can get remotely close. Psycho remake was odd, and that's saying something because Psycho is brilliantly odd. I love Vince Vaughn in different roles but he's really not a Norman Bates. If you're going to try it, do something like Bates Motel. Great! Different, and it expands on the story.

ETA: Or examples like Valmont, Dangerous Liaisons and Cruel Intentions. All basically the same *story or plot I should say* but done very differently. Same with Clueless being Emma. I don't mind that as much as 50 attempts at the same exact script.

I just read that they have remade Endless Love. It was not that great to begin with. Okay, but was no box office hit. I suspect Ice Castles is next. Oh snap! Never mind. I just remembered they already did that a few years ago.

This remake of Carrie gets thumbs up from me. It is better than most attempts. Up next... Either PLL and Ravenswood or another movie called Open Grave

^ It was good!

Cougar Town was cute this week. Dad's made me laugh like a hyena. My stomach hurts from rewinding it and watching parts over again.

I haven't seen Cougar Town. I'll have to check it out!

I did just watch Mike and Molly and 2 Broke Girls as well. I'm a day behind on all of the shows I record.

The Originals, Ravenswood and then Sleepy Hollow. I'm stuck in the house today. May as well make room on the DVR:

One reason is because a lot of younger people won't watch "old" movies no matter how good they may be. And "old" is now the 70s and 80s. I used to teach an arts class online and I had students flat out tell me they wouldn't watch a black and white movie.

Shoot, I not only watch black and white movies, I watch SILENT movies! Kids these days are missing out if they won't watch anything other than new stuff (and I love new stuff too!).

I wondered about that. Someone has always attempted remaking a movie here and there, since the beginning of cinema, but it has seemed incredibly excessive for years now. Makes me ill because they are wasting so much time re making works rather than putting out something original.

I've been glad to see several working on movies that others have tried to get made for many years, with no luck. They have had to reach a point where they could produce it themselves, to make this happen, but that is worth it.

Anywho, one of my nephews asked a question on FB a few weeks ago about the best movie villains. I noticed Percy from The Green Mile (1999) was as far back as their, and their friends, 23-24 year old knowledge went. I hammered out a rather large list, spanning back long before I was born in the 70's. It made me giggled and sigh. You miss so much. There are numerous older films that are worth watching. Sure, the times may have been different but that does not mean you can not relate to the characters. You also miss out on some amazing cinematography. I took every variation of Movies as Lit I could get my hands on, and loved when movies I had not seen were shown. I also loved it when we discussed some I was very familiar with. I would have felt like I was limiting myself otherwise. But I do see it as an art form, as well as entertainment. I think that makes a difference, and I thank my elementary school art teacher and The Red Balloon for that.

*********

I am watching Revolution, yet again. I have tried to watch twice but fallen asleep because I was exhausted. This time I will finish it.

^ Not to mention 90% of them named more recent Disney or Pixar characters. I kept wanting to scream, "doesn't count! really, it doesn't". Think people who could never be redeemed. If you have never watched Kazan's A Face in the Crowd, you have not lived.

Tonights Revolution and American Horror Story. Might throw a movie in so I can forward thru commercials when I watch my shows later.

^ The Red Balloon woke up my little brain and made it love independent/foreign/weird and wonderful/important/unimportant/smart/dumb/good/bad movies.

GMA, quietly. Fingers crossed it will lull me to sleep. Conversations about country music stars going to rehab have been known to do that, though I am finding the first Twitter liability trial with Courtney Love to be interesting. I was wondering when legal battles over defamation of character would pop up and possibly change social media for all. It's been a long time coming.

I enjoy the Deeks/Kensi story line but wish she was back in LA. I did like how they sort of worked together this last episode though.

I also just watched Castle, Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Fosters.
