Buying fragrances
SO and I don't wear cologne/perfume very often but we'd both like something new. I was just going to get them at Macys or Sephora but I'm wondering if I can get them somewhere else for a lower price. I know a big concern is that there are lots of fakes out there so I want to avoid that. So, my question is, is Amazon a safe place for fragrances? I know things you buy on there are often from other stores/vendors, but does Amazon make sure their partners are reputable? Also, what about Target or something like drugstore.com? Any other suggestions?

What about the perfume stores/kiosks like Perfumania or Scentsational?

Are those real? I always assumed they were fakes, but if they're real I'll look into it!

They're real. I save so much by getting fragrances from stores like those.

Oh but I've never purchased from a kiosk. I always get it from Perfumania, Amazon.com, or a store in an outlet mall.

The malls wouldn't let them set up shop if they only sold fakes. Check the packaging. If there are misspellings or other mistakes, it's fake. Also test the fragrance to see if it smells the same as the one you're looking for. If it smells off, then that's another hint.
I've never had a problem with the perfume stores.

Honestly, there are convincing fakes out there.
You take a risk with perfume whenever you buy perfume from discounters, because often the trail is lost between the manufacturer and the discounter. Even if the discounter is honest, the folks who sold them the perfume could have lied to them. And it can be a big deal when a perfume is counterfeit, because there's no quality control for the ingredients. Anything could be in it.
On the other hand, as long as you're buying from a discounter with a good history, you're most likely getting the real thing. The problems I've heard about with people getting rashes from counterfeit perfumes had to do with street merchants. I've bought perfume from reliable online discounters, and I have no reason to suspect that I didn't get the real thing. But IMO you should still be aware of the risks.
