Having moaned about my loathsome job for I don't know how long I finally got off my bum and did something about it. Spoke to two of my managers who were remarkably understanding and offered to let me take a year off from my permanent position while still giving me options to work if and when I feel like it, on a casual basis. I've applied to do a 6 month course at college and see what happens (should hear in a couple of days if I've got in). I can't begin to describe the relief I feel - I've done the same job for 30yrs and finally feel like I'm moving away from it. Don't know how it'll work out, might all go completely pear shaped and the money (lack of) will be an issue, but right now I'm just happy. Not working nights and weekends is something I'm really looking forward to.
Yay for happy stories!

I love this thread, and I love reading everybody's happy things! 2010 and 2011 have been stellar years for me, and I've been so overwhelmed by my good fortune.
2010
*I got a decent-paying job in my field (libraries) while still in grad school--and these
jobs are NOT plentiful.
*I lost 20 lbs
*I got married
*I discovered the Clarisonic (thanks to NC.com!) and my face is finally almost clear!
2011
*Have kept the weight off.
*Finally learned to run without collapsing and gasping for air
*FINALLY FINISHED MY HUSBAND'S IMMIGRATION STUFF - and now he's here with me!!! :-D
*Husband got a job within a month of moving here
*Got enough back from my tax return to get a car for my husband
*Best friend had a beautiful baby, after trying for several years, various fertility treatments, and 2 miscarriages
*Graduated!
*Won "rookie of the year" at work, and got $100 for it
*Interviewed for a promotion...and got it! And a raise!
*Got health insurance for my husband, just days before he got a MRSA-infected insect bite on his knee--perfect timing!
*Finally got over a cold/cough/sore throat that lasted 3 weeks
*Perfected my "sticky rice"
*Summer is finally here! :-D
*3-day weekend this weekend!

HUGE Happiness at just finding this board recently and finding a lot of wonderfully helpful people here!
I have so much to be thankful for. After 8 years of singledom the universe decided I should meet my match and we are now living together in total love and happiness.
It was my 50th birthday a couple of months ago and he took me on an amazing 11 day cruise and a week riding roller coasters in Florida. What an awesome man and what an incredible way to celebrate.
I am so in love! It is so weird because we are so happy and there isn't even the slightest hint that it won't be lovely forever. I decided that I will be the one to make him first in my life and he's done the same for me.. Letting go of having to be right about everything has been wonderful for both of us.

My baby is such a good baby and a great sleeper. Our friends were shocked that he slept almost 4 hours through their visit yesterday. And then slept almost 6 hours straight at night. I'm so lucky... I hope it keeps up (especially given that his big brother is still a horrible sleeper.) I could easily have 2 more if they would only be like this!

It's raining! The 4th of July makes me nervous because we're living in a tinderbox and have dunderheads for neighbors. Hooray for rain making it safer for everyone! Now we need more of it!

I am loving all the happiness from everyone. It reminds me that while I could find things that I am unhappy about, I have a ton to be happy about.
My happiness:
*I finally got my Bachelor's Degree in May!
*Got a great internship and my superiors are happy with my work AND there is possibility for a full time position after the "internship" ends.
*My boyfriend and I are in a really good place in our relationship, after some issues we've been dealing with.
*After a year in therapy my anxiety is dramatically better and I finally feel like I can live a happier, calmer life that I am more in control of.
The last thing on my list makes me the happiest.

--Our house sold after being on the market for 15 days. I feel so lucky.
--I starting running a few months ago. I've done a 10k, 5k, and now I'm training for a half-marathon this fall.
--I got accepted and offered a fellowship for a graduate program. I've been considering doing this for several years to go in a different direction career-wise, and I'm finally taking the plunge.

This is such a great thread!
Today for the first time in three months I was able to blink without assistance and even smile a little! I know it seems small but I've had partial facial paralysis due to bells palsy since April! Yay face lol
Taking my son to his first baseball game and were riding the train there he couldn't be happier, that makes me insanely happy!
Happy 4th to those in the states!

I got my schedule for next year confirmed and I'm extremely happy with it. I have three weighted classes (honors English, honors physics and AP US history) but my other three classes won't be hard- 2 fun electives and pre-calculus, which is going to be much easier than the math I took this year. I'm genuinely excited- it's going to be hard but fun and I'm going to work insanely hard to finally pull a 4.0 that I know I can get.
We'll see if my AP exam score belongs in this category in a couple days haha.

After over a year of being at my job. I have finally been deemed worthy. I am being crossed trained starting tomorrow. This is a big deal, because most people have been hear for years and have never crossed trained. Its perfect timing, i was starting to get soooo bored with doing the same thing over and over, everyday. Maybe i can look forward to a raise soon.

Not as important as some of the other posts, but we've been lucky to meet some of the seasonal people up here camping. They are so wonderful, friendly and helpful. The man next door took my son out and taught him to kayak on the lake yesterday, his first time! Today they offered to let my son take me out and teach me with their kayaks. And he did! My first time too! It was so fun!
They offered the use of their kayaks while they go back home for a couple of weeks. (The seasonals have big camping rigs that they leave up hear for 5-6 months and they come and go) The wife asked me to water her plants (I'll have to post pics of her garden on that garden thread) and offered the use of their tables, chairs, etc that are set up in the "yard".
I feel so blessed! Wait til I tell hubby! He'll be back late Friday night.

I would like to know more about this place in India, jeepy.
My happy thing is that a friend not only found a working 42" flat screen TV, but gave it to me, to make up for the one my dogs broke last autumn. Can you believe the generosity?
