Conversate vs Converse. Conversating vs Conversing. LOL!
Way too many people actually think conversate is a word.

I was working demo today.

What did we demo? Quinoa.

By 8pm, I was getting tired of the repetitive, 'How do you say it again?' comments.

But, a few more people know how to say it now. I've done my duty.

Chef Gordon Ramsay always pronounces filet, "fill-et". Oh, and he calls erbs, "herbs".

I take it that the English spell it tartare, which I'd be inclined to pronounce 'tar-tare' if I had never heard the word said before.

I think I mispronounce kindergarten all the time. It's my problem word.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone besides myself say "February" with both Rs pronounced. And I only pronounce the first R because when we were learning about the months in kindergarten I was shocked, shocked to find that there was a secret R in that word. I think I felt kind of betrayed or misled

When people pronounce Houston St. In NYC as "Huuston" instead of "Howston." It isn't pronounced the same way as the city in Texas.

The numerous mispronunciations of my name. It is Athena. It is not Afina, Anita, Althea, Edina, Althenia, Edida, Armina, or any other ridiculous thing that sounds nothing like my name. It's most annoying when I'm asked for my name and it's repeated back to me completely wrongly.

I have an uncle (who is uneducated, and also a bit of an alcoholic) who says "Pay PREview" instead of "Pay PERview". It makes me stabby. I've explained it to him..you pay PER viewing, you don't pay for PREviews! ARGH! It drives me nuts, but he just doesn't get it.

Other things that bug me are just names of local places. I correct people on the T (the subway) when I hear them say COPEly Square instead of COPley square, as it's pronounced. Short O, not a long O! The other one is not as clear-cut as a right/wrong but it's supposed to be TREmont street. Short E. Kinds like Treh-mont street. Not TREEmont street.

As for names, I have a very simple name to spell and pronounce. I don't feel comfortable revealing my name here, but it's along the lines of Samantha Smith. Not really any way to misspell or mispronounce that! As a kid, I was jealous of all the kids who got to correct a teacher or someone on how to pronounce their names. Now as an adult, I often joke with people who have to look up my name or call it out, since it's so easy!

sangwich instead of sanDwich. drives me crazy.

I recently had to teach a class where we used the word "extraordinary" a LOT. My co-teacher pronounced it "extra-Nordinary." Made me crazy every single time.

And though this is the generally accepted pronunciation in the U.S. I don't like aunt pronounced as ant. It just sounds weird to me. My sister-in-law teases me all the time that I sound snooty when I say it, but I don't care! I like it better!
