Right now I'm working on my first afghan, as well as a few other projects for the holidays. Is anyone else making home made gifts this year?

okay first dumb question. when you say knitters is that the word for people sewing clothes or do you mean knitting like making blankets? i told you it was dumb :?

Lol.. it's okay. Knitting and sewing are two different crafts though, I can tell you that. Knitting is making fabrics and clothes with 2 or more needles. Sewing is using already made fabrics to make clothes.

My mom and I both knit. I just learned but picked iy up pretty quickly. I only know a few basics and watching some videos on youtube intimidate me but I love it. My mom is extremely talented and creative and together we make some really unique accessories. You can see them at HeartFeltCreations. I wanted to post pics in the thread (not trying to push a business here) but photobucket wouldn't cooperate.

Let's keep this thread going. Right now I'm working on scarves for all the kids in my life.

I've only crocheted a simple wrap. It's basically just a wide/long scarf.

I know how to knit, but I don't do it well. I'm not good at the tension thing.

I wish I could crochet more, but I have too many projects already. But I can share some books I found that are nice.

ETA: I forgot something! I really want to crochet myself some wrist warmers. Cold damp air makes them ache. With winter approaching maybe I should make the time.

I really like that sweater. It looks like the suede yarn has been discontinued. I wonder if it looks/feels/acts like the chenille yarns?

I havent tried any patterns yet. All the abbreviations confuse me :disgust:

I'm knitting tea-cosies for my parents and sister. Just a silly kind of present really, quick and easy.

I used to really like to crochet when I was a little girl. I probably have my hook around here somewhere...maybeI should find it and get back into it!

Just wanted to make a comment about chenille. It "worms." I bought a lot of it a long time ago and was really disappointed with my finished work. I'm not sure how you stop it from worming.

Oh cool.. it's good to see there's a lot of creative people here. :) And yeah CHF, you should get back into it. Crochet is all the rage these days (again) it seems.

I have decided that I am gonna get multiple hooks in my most frequently used sizes so I can work several projects at a time. And M2LR, Ravelry is addictive.. it's starting to compete with my NC time..lol

I tend to search for patterns for hours. :-)

Burn thru my stash.

eta: And yes I spend hours drooling over patterns too.. I have about 36 items in my queue to work on. Right now I'm only working on one project, but I want to start a few more.

Where did you guys learn how to knit/crochet? I learned how to knit years ago but I doubt I'll remember how. I've always wanted to learn how to crochet though, any good recommendations on where I can learn?

My grandmother taught me the basics of crocheting. I had a book that helped me, but I cannot remember the name. I will check to see if I can find it when I get home.

Mine is kind of a long story...my grandma was a huge knitter, and I remember her trying to teach me, but I couldn't get it. Then, a friend from work bought me some yarn and needles when I was pregnant with Roo, still couldn't get it.
I went to a WW meeting and the lady in front of me was knitting. I watched her the entire time, about 30 minutes. Came home, dug out my needles and wallah!
I still do basic stuff like scarves, but I also do socks, and other little projects. I recently made some beaded earrings that are knit. I've been experimenting with lace, and it takes me a while to
Get it and I get easily frustrated, but I keep plugging away. I will see about putting my pics on photobucket or some thing.

I learned how to knit from my mom and grandmother who were both really good at it, but I never could get the coordination to work with two needles. I am much more comfortable with crochet. I learned a few basics as a kid, but picked it up again about 2 years ago.

Most of what I learned was through books, google searching, and you tube. TJW1963 is pretty much the default youtuber/blogger for people who want to learn crochet. She has written patterns and videos for each of her projects, and there are hundreds (or so it seems).

My great grandma taught me how to knit. For crochet I bought one of those starter kits. I found crochet a lot easier than knitting, faster too. There are things like triple stitches that are easy to do and make things like scarves really quick.
