Do you make a Christmas list?

If anyone asks what I want, I tell them. Otherwise they get me scented lotion and bubble bath, and I hate that crap. But I don't just volunteer my list to any and all my relatives like I did when I was a kid.

My brother and his wife don't make lists, and I don't know their preferences well, so buying for them is extremely difficult. I know what shows they like, and the kind of movies they like, but I don't know what they already own. I have no idea what sizes they or their kids wear, what toys their kids like. I'm basically shopping for strangers. And dear dog the hell to pay if I get them nothing.

So yeah. I like lists.

"And politically correct is the worst term, not just because it’s dismissive, but because it narrows down the whole social justice spectrum to this idea that it’s about being polite instead of about dismantling the oppressive social structure of power.
Fun Fact: When you actively avoid being “PC,” you’re not being forward-thinking or unique. You’re buying into systems of oppression that have existed since before you were even born, and you’re keeping those systems in place."
Stolen.
B still gets me stuff off the list. But there are usually books I want and he would have no idea which ones because he is not a reader and has no clue what I have already read. There are also some other things - kitchen wise that I would not buy for myself that I will put on my list. He then gets me clothes or jewelry on his own.

It works for us. He is horrible about giving me a list though. That is why last year I got him his iPad. I was not even sure he wanted one but he loves it.

oh, you mean make a list of things i want for me to give to others so they'll know exactly what to get me?

no.

i don't like telling people what to get me. i don't like people asking me what i want or what they can get me. telling people what i want renders the same flavor as gift registries (a pet peeve). and people asking me what i want makes me think they have exhausted themselves thinking of something to get me. so i'd honestly prefer they just send a greetings card and call it a day. hey, i wouldn't be upset with a gas gift card or grocery store gift card, as high as prices are today.

i've always liked to be surprised. and even if someone is off the mark, i'd rather discover it on Christmas morning. it adds to the wonder and surprise of the festive part of the holiday.

He would buy me anything, so if I asked for jewelry, I'd get it. Problem is, I don't like most jewelry.

Plus, I think Christmas gifts are like, you see something that reminds you of someone and you get it for them. It seems boring to just check things off a list.

But I guess Im one of the few!
