Default I'm not eating that

I went to a potluck last night and a woman made a cake that looked like a litter box... with logs of chocolate Frosting scattered around the top.

It wasn't a theme potluck. She just made it. No one ate it. Why would someone do that?

I've made that cake before. The recipe I used called for Tootsie Roll turds. They looked very realistic. It was served with a pooper scooper out of a litter box. It was a hit!

Some people think it's fun to make edible creative (read weird) things like that, but I wouldn't eat it either. I would do a dirt pile with gummy worms, but no litter box.

I REALLY don't get the litterbox as cake trend. The very idea makes me gag, which is not conducive to eating dessert.

Some of the pics I've seen of these "cakes" online have been very, uh, realistic. VERY. 'Nuff said.

The flowerpot with pudding in the pot and Oreo "dirt" on top and gummy worms was ... okay. Silly, but at least it didn't make me want to vomit. That's the very least we should be expecting from a dessert offering, no?

I feel sorry for someone so out of touch they would bring something like that to an event where they weren't 100% sure it would go over well. ETA: or maybe she really thought it would be a hit, which is even sadder.

Desserts should not be sad!

I have two cats and I clean their box twice daily. I don't need to look at an edible facsimile.

Gross, I wouldn't have eaten that either. I don't understand the whole 'let's make edible things look like inedible things'. I also don't like when people bake things in items that haven't been tested for food safety, like flower pots, litter boxes, etc. I don't really eat potluck anyway, but yeah, gross. Making food that looks literally like poo? I don't get it.

It's not baked in a litter pan. It's made from boxed cake mix, pudding, vanilla sandwich cookies, food coloring and Tootsie Rolls.

Yup, that's the one.

I'm weighing my pity for this person against the strength of my gag reflex. The reflex is winning.

OK, that's nasty - as much as I love chocolate, I don't think I could eat that either! I didn't picture it being that bad.

What's especially gross about it is it looks like a catbox that hasn't been cleaned in quite some time. A regularly cleaned catbox looks nothing like that. This factors in extra squickiness for me. *shudder*
