LOVE Octavia and Aurora! I think I kinda like Irie, too. I love old, grand-sounding names, though. I have a Theodosia way back in my family tree, and I think there will be a dog in my future with that name, since I probably won't ever have kids. :-D

Same! I love the name Aurora .. But it does remind me of the disney princess in sleeping beauty all the time lol my whole family (or the girls at least) have old somewhat grand sounding names ... Victoria, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Pandora, Sylvia, Catherine, Francessca, Ruby...if fact me and my Sis are the only ones that don't.
Weirdest names I ever came across?
Pandora (my cousin)
Musa (sounds as it's spelt) That was her nickname I can't even spell what her real name was...
Ballerina
Courtney for a boy I thought was odd at the time
Angelike (angelique) just spell your name properly!!!!!

My aunt was named Joe. Her middle name was Ann. My grandfather was convinced he was having a boy and refused to budge on the name. She legally changed it to Joanne on her 18th birthday though. But apparently growing up in the 60's she always was put on the boys side of the room.

I just thought they were pretty normal Dutch names. Of course, I don't know if they are or not.

No they're not :-) None of those names are. I have never encountered someone who pronounced our names right the first time.

They're distinctive. I really like them.
I wouldn't have guessed at the pronunciation (sp?) of your name, but I would have guessed at the other two. What origin are they?

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.
No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.

A teacher in my high school was named Mrs. Dickey. There was a strong rumor that her first name was Aphelia. I think boys made that up.

When I was a kid we had neighbors whose last name was Lipschitz. I had never heard the S-word (things were different then!) so I never thought anything of it until I was older.

I've just seen someone on tv called Dr Rebekka Kill.
Dr Kill.
I'm not sure what she was a doctor in.
Also:
Newt. For serious? That's a name? Why would you name your child after a slimy amphibian?

I think his name is Newton.
I recently heard of the name "God's Gift." <shrug>
I do however like the name Lionel. For a girl. As in Lionel Shriver. But apparently that's not her given name.

I work in a hospital and sit near the woman who enters all of the birth registry information for New York State. Needless to say, we hear some good ones. Two of my favorites:
a woman added "Uses the Knife" to her daughter's name. I'm not making this up- our poor registrar had to field inquiries from at least three different orfganizations, including NYS Dept of Vital Statistics.
I overheard the birth registrar on the phone with a new parent asking, "do you want the last name to be Guido or Guido Guido- do you want one Guido or two?"
We joke with her that this is what she gets when she tells people, "you can name your baby whatever you want."

I actually read an article from Circle of Moms on weird names not to long ago. It was about some couple who apparently tried to name their son, well, I don't know, it was random numbers and letters like they beat their heads on a keyboard and said "Hey! Let's name our child that."
In the comments section people were discussing strange names they have come across and one lady said she was a teacher who had a little girl in her class who said that her mommy was shocked to discover the nurses had already named her. The girl's name was Female pronounced Fuh-Molly.
Of course, no idea if this is true, but if so.... I can't help but feel that maybe this lady shouldn't be having children.

I know a Kevin Hurt, not bad until you realize he's the surgeon they took out my gallbladder. I refused to acknowledge I saw a surgeon named Dr. Hurt so I called him Dr. Kevin. That made me feel better about my first surgery.
