My cousins have been posting comments about one of their friends' new baby. His/her name is Messiah. I wanted to jump through fb and smack everybody.

Blame it on the cell phone...

I knew a girl named Ferrari Foote.

And, a friend of mine's father is named Jerry. And his sister is Terry. And their last name is Berry.

Jerry and Terry Berry, I kid you not.

Friends of mine recently had their first son.

His middle name is Danger.

I know it's weird but I effing love it.

I worked with children named champagne, Chardonnay, and Alize. I need people to stop naming their children after liquor

LOL. I think that's kind of cool and hilarious. The parents clearly have a sense of humor and it's not cruel or likely to get the kid beaten up. I can get with that.

A lot of the mens names now being women's are mostly spelling related. Like Marion = man but Marian = woman. Gale/Gail (or gayle) generally. We've forgotten that a lot of words that indicate gender and people engender names so much that god forbid their son ends up with a "girly" sounding name.

I had a great uncle named Norton which isn't that common and a distant grandfather named Rose.

In my teaching I've encountered a Teal and a Paisley which while not horrible are still weird.

I thank goodness my sisters have given all of my nieces and nephews simple, lovely, and easy to understand names. I can't handle it when people get all mad by giving their kids a unique name and can't follow the conventions of any language! Don't get all mad at me cuz I can't say your kids name when it makes no sense for it to sound like it does! If you weren't prepared to be patient with people, you shouldn't have gotten nutty with it!

People with clearly foreign names are my exception. I can generally puzzle something out with French or Hispanic backgrounds and if they are not from here it's not their fault their name sounds kinda funny in English.

I substitute taught in secondary schools for 3 years after college....

-Blaze (Kind of a cool name; but I don't think his parents were a fan of Blaise Pascal. It was more of a smoking "medicinal" cigarettes thing. He was Caucasian, by the way. I only mention it because someone early on in the thread implied that these names are mainly prevalent in African Americans.)

-A geographical group of sisters named: China, Asia, India and English

-Biblical names: Obediah, Lazarus, Jesus, Enoch, etc.

-Days of the week: Thursday, Wednesday, etc.

-I went to high school with a girl whose given name was Sunday Raspberry. (Raspberry was her last name.)

Marion and Gale are mens' names. I have an uncle with the middle name Marion. It's not that uncommon, or at least it didn't used to be.
My husband's step-mom is named Marion.

There's a little boy in my daughter's class named Sincere. While unusual, I think it's a sweet name for a little boy.

Yeah Marion is definitely not odd imo, just old-fashioned. I love older names like that. My grandma is named Marion. I love that name and if I ever have a daughter, I want to name her that.

I have recent met a man named Cupid, and a man named Young Love. I am friends who named their baby Thor. The dad is swedish and huge and looks like a viking it makes a certain amount of sense, but it stills makes me think of the avengers.

I can imagine the conversations he'll have one day when he begins to date!

Boy: "My middle name is Danger."
Girl: "You cornball!"
Boy: "No, really. My middle name really is Danger. My name is John Danger Smith."
<<crickets>>

LOL
