I've dealt with with depression and the struggle with focusing on books even though I love to read and always have; it's just a part of being disinterested in general because once I have my nose in a good book I can't put it down.

I also struggle to express myself when I'm uncomfortable, which sucks because it just fuels the awkwardness of whatever situation.

It doesn't have anything at all to do with intelligence or writing skill. I'm a great writer, just socially awkward.

I think it just takes practice, being depressed can leave you isolated. Do you think speed dating would help? I also think practicing (maybe in a mirror) is a good idea too.

I have the same problem.

I don't have the answer though...Maybe others will be able to help us!

Shrinkage happens.
Like others have said, this is a common problem w/introverts... I highly recommend reading "The Introvert Advantage" by Marti Laney... it really changed my life!
