Would you call the police?

All it takes for evil to thrive is for descent men (insert people here) to stand by and do nothing. I really wish I could remember who said that, but at least I remember what was said LOL!

Anyway, I'd probably call the cops, but I'd weigh it. I've called anonymously for noise complaints before on campus (hey, I need my sleep!), so I'd do the same if I heard a girl next door yelling at her boyfriend to get off of her. I'd want someone to do the same for me.
Under construction.
Sorry guys, but I can't stand cop callers. I think it's butting into other peoples business, and you have no right being there. My mom is a cop caller, and I always tell her she's crazy.

What people do in their own homes is their business. If they take it outside it's one thing, but to have the cops called on them b/c of fighting, or because a kid keeps calling their mom is just ridiculous. Unfortunately walls can be thin, or windows can be open, and you can hear alot of what's going on b/c houses are so close together, but people have a right to live their life without constantly having the cops called on them. I would be just LIVID if the cops showed up at my door b/c some neighbor couldn't keep her ear from my wall.

Now, granted, sometimes you can REALLY tell that a man is beating his wife, or if, in the case of the article, a child was crying, and pleading with the adult to stop, on more than one occasion, then I would have to say I'd get involved, but you don't know that every time a parent yells at a child, or a couple gets into a fight that it's an abusive situation. Worry about your own lives.

I don't think privacy extends to beating people up.

Please excuse any typos. For the time being, we are blaming it on my computer.

I just looked back and-- with the exception of my comment above-- the phrase "all the time" was never used with someone saying they'd call the police but with people saying they heard the neighbors fighting all the time.

All I can say is that I wish someone would have heard ME every once in a while and called the cops. I needed someone to do it. That's all I have to say.
Idiots who are intimidating and abusing others in their household ALWAYS deserve to have the cops called on them. There is so much mind control crap people like this do to their victims... sometimes the only hope a person has is that neighbor who picks up the phone and does the right thing. You better believe my fingers would start dialing.
They have before and they won't hesitate to do it again.
If I thought a child was being abused, of course I would call the police.

It's hard not to read about the Shawn Hornbeck case and not wish some neighbor would have called the police about something--sounds of violence, the fact that Shawn was never in school. At least he is finally home with his parents again.

Worry about your own lives.
I'm sorry but that statement is just sad.

Yes, I call the cops if I hear something that doesn't sound right. I'd rather call them and find out nothing was happening than NOT call and find out I should've.

eta: sorry if I put one of your quotes in there - I'm not trying to call anybody out to argue, I just was trying to address the above comment.
