Anyone here do the bathhouse thing?

Oh dear. No. That sounds terrible.

Now, I do love going to a spa for a massage, and then going in the steam room and/or jacuzzi afterwards. But I always wear a bathing suit!!
I don't think I'd have any interest in going to one for two reasons. 1. I think my body is beautiful but meant for someone special to see,and being around a bunch of men I don't know....no thanks. 2. I have two small daughters and I wouldn't want to have them around naked men. I'd probably go to an all female one though, just for the scrub because that sounds fantastic!

I've been to something similar when I was in Italy, but there was also a mud bath where the attendants hosed you off afterwards. The lack of squeamishness and embarrassment about nudity there was quite refreshing.

I could deal with the nudity, I think (sounds like it might be kind of freeing). It just sounds kind of unsanitary. And that's coming from someone who really doesn't have a fear of germs!
i have some friends who are totally in love with spa world here in dc.

they give them shorts to wear. and they can stay for 24 hours. there are always deals. so they consider it a mini vaca. also a few folks have been stranded with out a hotel or anywhere to stay, adn they go to spa world.

i couldnt do it because i dont wnat to get nothing. same reason i dont get a pedicure. i's scurred!!
Regular people don't really get tattoos in Japan, only yakuza (organized crime), so that's why the restriction. Some places there are more lax than others, though. Here I've never had a problem with my ink, but here it is totally different

I don't think I would be able to relax the whole time I was there.

ETA: And yes, the nudity is very freeing. Lots of different body types and no one cares.

I just got a Groupon today for Spa World! LOL

This one is in Centreville, VA though. Waaay too far from where I live. Otherwise I might consider it a sign from the universe that perhaps I should put my pre-conceived notions about group nudity aside and try it.

My friends, LOVE , LOVE, LOVE these places. They rant about the scrubs.

I really want to go to one. I went to something similiar in Japan, but just did the Doctor Fish and hot room (due to lack of time). These things are banned in the US (for sanitary reasons) and I'm just fine. I wish I could do again

hmmm, let me do some research for my trips to DC and Austin

i say go for it. Why not?

And as another poster mentioned, it's considered the DC Spa World, but it is in Centreville, VA. Takes us about 45 minutes to get there--a straight shot on 66.

Curlyarca, if you make it to DC, we should arrange to have a curly meetup so you can meet the DC NC folks.

Before chlorination, swimming pools were a huge breeding ground for contagious diseases like polio. (That's why there used to be rumors that you could get HIV from swimming pools.) And even now, chlorination can't thoroughly sanitize hot tubs because of their hot water. Plus, it's not like showering before you get in the water will keep you from coughing. I'm just saying, I personally wouldn't go in the water at one of these places.

And if you want a great body scrub, get a genuine Salux cloth!

I love Spa World! I go as often as I can. The nudity doesn't bother me but as another poster says, no one cares.

Also, the heated rooms are coed and everyone is clothed in the same thing--shorts and tops they provide. The water room--giant bade pool, steam room, jacuzzi--is single sex with nudity.
