Default Daylight Savings- Ugh!!

In general, I really don't appreciate my lost hour of sleep every spring, but I'm feeling a little more annoyed than usual this time around. I accidentally fell asleep this afternoon for a while so I'm way too wired when I should probably have gone to bed already.

I went out last night with a few friends from choir (I sing in two church choirs and manage to find more trouble with the choir folk than my non-religious friends, and last night took the cake, but that's a whole different thread). I live about 40 minutes away so I got a hotel room because I knew it was going to be that kind of night. I got back to the hotel around 3am and didn't set the alarm because I didn't have to check out until 11. 7am I was wide awake. So I took a power nap while I was trying to catch up on a full week worth of Colbert Report and Daily Show.

I don't get to sleep in tomorrow- I have to be at church (40 minutes away) at 8:15am. Fortunately it will be an early day- our priest moved the 11am mass to 10:30 so he could attend the local St Patrick's Day parade at noon. Of course that also means that between the change in mass time and daylight
savings we will be singing to an empty church.

I guess I wasn't really asking a question; I really just needed to vent a bit, but if anyone else wants to vent about losing an hour of sleep, I'd love to know that I'm not alone!

It doesn't bother me about the sleep but one year day light savings was on my birthday. Now that pissed me off haha

I hate losing an hour of sleep--but I love that it stays light longer during the warmer months.

I hate losing an hour of sleep and I HATE losing that hour of daylight in the morning. Once again it'll be dark when I get up in the morning. I swear the sun doesn't rise here until nearly 8 am after the time change. It bites.

Usually all the negatives are more than outweighed by the change in weather, from sometimes brutal Minnesota wintertime to signs of spring. I am happy to give up an hour for that. Just as in the fall I feel like gaining an hour makes up a bit for summer coming to an end.

Winter was very mild this year, however, so I'm not feeling as desperate as I typically do this time of year. I'm a tad more resentful of losing an hour. Still looking forward to summer, though.

What I really mind is losing an hour of the weekend.

I want the change to occur during the week, during the day.

Meh. It's just an hour. In return-- here comes longer daylight.

But that's just it - it isn't longer daylight. It just moves he daylight to the evening where we, in my opinion, don't need it! I'd much rather have it be light or getting light when I get up in he morning than have it light until 9:00 pm.

Mornings are difficult anyway, made even more hard to deal with by it being dark 'til 7:45am. Blech.

i can see where a schedule like Corinna's can lead to lost sleep, but i didn't lose any. last night i went to bed at 11:30 after the news and i woke up a short while ago when my clocks still said 7:45. i always change my clocks after i get up in the morning, maybe it makes a difference, i don't know.

like PH, i mind losing that hour in the morning. the sun will only come up at 7:45 tomorrow.

one of my co-workers (who is a crazy health-nut or a drama queen, i'm not sure) says she is SO affected by the hour change that she MUST come in to work an hour late every day this coming week in order to adjust!

i'm wondering if she'll offer to show up at 7:30 am when we switch back in November!

I have a 7:50 AM flight. So, I had to get to the airport by 6:00, which meant I had to get up at 4:40.

Last night we went to see the ballet, which was awesome, but finished at 11:00, putting us in bed at 12:30.

3 hours of sleep, woohoo.

It doesn't bother me either way but it makes the SO happy to have longer light in the evenings so that makes me happy. I even got my usual 7 hours last night but I'm dragging azz today, can't muster any energy.

Wasn't daylight savings started by farmers? I just don't know if it's worth doing anymore. I mean either way we still end up with more daylight.

It is definitely annoying to try and readjust sleep schedules. I lost my hour already this morning and am off to a late start.

I guess I have never really understood the not getting used to losing an hour's sleep. Our schedules throughout our lives change. Sometimes we have parties where we stay out late and get less sleep; we adapt. Coming from a northern state, I love that DST means more light in the evening. Gives me spring fever and lets me think summer is nearly here!!

The year I turned 50 my birthday was the last Sunday in October. I got to "celebrate" for 25 hours instead of 24. All I could think of was how depressing turning 50 was, and not only am I turning 50 but of all birthdays it is an hour longer.

I so agree! For the most part, I am able to function on very little sleep so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me.

I never had trouble adjusting to the hour change until a couple of years ago. Now I definitely feel it for a few days, both gaining and losing the hour. But part of that is probably because between two jobs, two choirs and karate I just don't have the time to relax and catch up.

I kinda have an internal clock, so I think that's why it takes a week to adjust.

Yes. And now that the farm implements all have headlights bright as day, they can farm all night long if they want to.

It's not my favorite. It makes my little ones think that going to be on time is the worst thing ever, since it stays light so much longer.
