I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.
We lived in a house that was full of subterranean termites. They even ate some books. Nasty destructive creatures. Couldnt wait to move. Even with all the treatments new patches kept appearing.

Oh yeah termites are no joke. We get them up north though too. I was once in a house in DE where termites had eaten the wooden floor under the linoleum. You could feel the spot where there was nothing supporting the tile. So we couldnt walk there. The PMPs wanted to move out the fridge to treat behind it, but the termite-eaten spot was right in front of the fridge. So they couldnt even do that.

wow...
tnb...which ones were they? The drywood or the subterranean? I've heard the fomosan are the worst!
I dont recall. I had to crawl under the house to see some of the termites, so I assume they were subs. IIRC termites are worse in the South, and yes thats where Formosans are.

Yeah, my dad said he was glad it was NOT the formosans....damn
Thankfully/luckily, we can do the interior ourselves.
I've done sheetrock, baseboards, painting, quarter-round, moulding, chair railing, tile [see my other thread response] etc...so, it's just gonna be a work in progress, since we don't use that room on a regular basis anyways and it was our very first room to put our first flooring project it when we first got the house new 13! years ago...my, how time flies!
Hubby has really come unglued about all of it and my ww [waterworks] went off last nite while we were at dinner b/c of all of the pita stuff we are dealing w/, but we can get thru this, just like anything else, ya know?

btw...how are you and hubby doing?

We have sub and drywood in our area. We just treated the house this week and used an orange oil company. Good luck WileE!

My great-aunt's house was literally destroyed by termites. She thinks it was because the foundation was too low to the ground or something. She had to move because most of the floors in the house were eaten away.

And after digging around last nite, this is more of what I found.
There is just a shell there where the wood should be.
Very creepy...lol

csd...where were you living at the time?
ladyv...gosh...where was this, as well?
Dang, that is some scary stuff....
Hubby is worried about the sheetrock. I told him not to. He said, I need to talk to your dad. He is freaking out right now..lol
I said, for me, I felt at peace/fine w/ the situation and that's normally not like me. I think we will be ok
It is par for the course, especially w/ a 13 y/o house
WileE are you guys getting the house treated to get rid of the termites before you do the interior work? I don't recall you mentioning that in the other thread and I followed your bread crumbs here.

I don't know anything about termites but its scary how something so freaking small can be so distructive. Best of luck to you and the hubby.

You actually do need to worry about the sheetrock as they burrow thru that for their tunnels. That's part of what the termite inspector explained when he was out last week. Do they have an orange oil specialist in your area? I would look into that, safer, cheaper and easier than tenting, esp a 2 story house.

CL, I'm glad you mentioned the tenting aspect of this. Mr. Spring is having a huge problem at the base housing he oversees with a termite issue and how to co-ordinate having all the tenants vacate for several days while it's treated and where to put them. Since it's the military and there is way too much stupid red tape involved he probably can't go the orange oil route, but I mentioned it to him anyway because you just never know. So, thanks!
