Spinoff: Who does weekly menus?

Rheanna's thread got me thinking....and actually, I think I have had previous threads about this very thing.

Who does weekly menus and do you usually stick to it? Does anyone do all their cooking for the week on Sunday and freeze or anything like that?
I cook several meals on Sat. and Sunday and freeze ahead.

Makes the work week much more sane and saves lots of time.

I do. It's the only way I can remain organized enough to know what meat to thaw out the night before LOL. I put together a weekly menu, make the grocery list off that menu and then post it on the fridge. That way I can alternate meats, cuisines and light with hearty fare and still use up what we bought in groceries that week.

Lately I've been doing some batch cooking on one weekend day or a weekday morning. Not really OAMC or freezer cooking but doing a bunch of baking (like making double batches of cookie dough, bagels, pizza dought, etc. to chuck in the freezer) as well as double batches of marinara and then putting together lasagnas ready to bake in the freezer. Not too much as I'm not a fan of precooking meats to add seasoning later, I like to cook my meats for the dish the day of so I can add specific seasonings.
I do - that way I know what to get when I go to the grocery store, and it also helps me remember if I'm supposed to have dinner out or at a friend's/family's, etc. If I don't have a menu, I'm liable to just eat out all the time, which isn't good. I like to eat healthy anyway
3B Corkscrew... I'm back on the boards now! Just got The Big Chop on Monday, pics coming soon.
You might want to do a search for Mormon or LDS meal plans or planning on the net or in a library.

They keep a year's supply of basics & I believe they plan meals around such.
I've been trying to do this since the beginning of the month. I usually pick out four meals to make that week, do my shopping on the weekend, and then decide the night before what I'm going to make the following day. So far it's been much easier than just buying random things at the grocery store and then trying to figure out what to make with them.

We do. If we don't, we eat takeout all week. We allow for some flexibility in the plans. Also we either make enough to freeze or to eat twice during the week.

Geeky is my hero. She's the true badass. The badass who doesn't even need to be a badass. There aren't enough O's in cool to describe her.
I don't plan menus but While shopping I make quick mental notes like eh? I'll make this or that this week and pick up whatever ingredients I need. I tried the planning thing but there are just some days it doesn't fit with the time I have or I really don't want whatever I planned, if I planned ahead. Now I usually just pull out whatever meat I'm making, before I go to work and decide during the day which way I'm cooking it. If I get lazy and don't feel like cooking, I'll make sure to make it the following day.
I have just started making grocery lists rather than buying on the fly, i make out weekly meals plans to help with this, plus sincei am trying to loose some weight, so it helps keep my diet on track...

I also freeze 2 meals a week at least and eat 1 meal out of the freezer, rather than eating leftovers the next day, i feeze the exrta so DH can take it to work or we can eat it as another meal.
I have been half assed doing this. At the moment I am trying to set up a cleaning schedule so I don't feel overwhelmed, and once that is in place I will work on dinners.
IC--I found a really good cleaning schedule on line, i can try to find it agian if you would like!
I wouldn't say we do a weekly menu. We plan a big multi-day meal for Sunday night, and then we plan something for later in the week to last a few days too. Friday nights we usually wing it via take out or something.

Once again, I must say http://www.flylady.net/

I've been getting better about doing this. I plan a menu, but sometimes it doesn't work. If my daughter comes from school and needs to go to Wal Mart or something, we don't get home til later and have to make something a little quicker, etc.

I've been freezing food for 'whenever' it's needed. This past weekend, I made meatloaf. I cooked one pan and cut it up and froze it individually. The other pan I froze uncooked. I did the same with Lasagna. Last weekend I made chili and froze it in different sized bags (individual servings and multiple servings. I also made up a batch of meatballs and taco meat. Oh, I almost forgot the chicken wild rice soup! Yum!!

These meals aren't usually in my 'planned' menu. They are for unplanned times or spur of the moment things that come up. Although, I can't really say that - tonight we are having tacos because I just feel like it (so I put it on the menu)...my easy night!!
Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or hump it.....Piss on it and walk away.

Thanks 2Happy. I was looking for something that gradually changed my routine. I think that will be easier for me to implement.
Before shopping, I plan out 7 meals. Make my list from that. I don't strictly stick to it though.
