Default I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE...want meat!

Eh, I've been a vegetarian for 7 years. I was chopping up some chicken breast for my husband and son and I accidentally popped a piece in my mouth!

OMMMMMMMMMMGGG!! I can't stop the craving for meat now. I've eaten two breast, 1 porkchop and some bacon!

To think I've denied myself these for 7 years?? Why?

You didn't get sick afterward though?

There was a time when I didn't eat pork for about five years. Not that I did that on purpose...it's just that I didn't happen to eat food with pork in it. Well, maybe a year or so ago, I had a pepperoni pizza. And it made me sick! Yikes!

I can only imagine it being worse if you were a vegetarian and you started eating meat again.

Haha, this makes me laugh because I actually was a vegetarian for seven years and then started eating meat again. Come back to the dark side, Speckla! It's delicious over here.

I mean, as a dedicated omnivore I find it hard to believe that CHICKEN would be the thing that brings you back.

My sister was a vegetarian for like ten years. Bacon brought her back. That I get, because bacon is made of magic. Chicken is tasty and all, but I wouldn't think it's made of the kind of magic that can bring a vegetarian back.

Me, I'd never leave, mostly because of bacon, but also because of duck, and cheeseburgers, and steaks on the grill. And ribs.

But mostly bacon.

^Chicken breast is the real wonder. I mean, roast chicken with crispy skin, sure, but chicken breast?!
A friend told me veal cheeks turned a vegan, which I can so get because veal cheeks are melt-in-your-mouth goodness.
I don't care that much about bacon, but pork owns my heart. I'd give up all other meat if I could only keep pork.

Speckla is going to be feeling sick, though, assuming this isn't a joke.

Yeah I second everyone who is wondering how your stomach feels about your meat-binge. I know that after 7 years of not eating meat, my body had to get used to it again. Gradually.

I agree!

I will not be joining the vegetarian club.

I could manage vegetarianism in spite of the place pork has carved out in my heart. I love vegetables, so it wouldn't be too difficult (though giving up gelatin would be kind of annoying since agar isn't quite the same for some things). It's veganism I can't do. I will not give up the butter. And the eggs. Just can't do it.

I went about ten years without eating any kind of meat and then had a big sloppy cheeseburger. I was fine. I don't know how much of that "I was veg and then I got so sick after eating meat" stuff is mental. I don't think the body "forgets" how to process meat. That just doesn't make sense.

I agree that bacon is the gateway meat. Although, I had a former vegetarian friend, and it was also chicken that brought her back to meat-eating. Grilled chicken thighs, sort of like this, thought I couldn't find a perfect picture (actually I'm not sure if these are thighs).

She said she was tired of constantly being hungry, and the chicken looked and smelled so good that she had to have some.

I would have to have a really, really good reason to stop eating meat. So far I haven't found any compelling reasons.

I've seen it when people didn't think about the effects at all and enjoyed meat.
People who eat fairly lean foods don't do so well when they eat a bunch of rich food, either.

My mother is constantly sneaking meat into my food because she's convinced I need it. Any time I sneeze or cough or yawn, it's because I don't eat meat and am VERY unhealthy. (Says the heavy smoker who drinks a ton and eats lots of fried food and doesn't exercise........................)

I tell her if she keeps doing that and I accidentally eat meat, SHE COULD KILL ME.

I know that's not true. I just like telling her that.

For me, fish and chicken were my gateways back into omnivore-hood.

When I was 11, my best friend and I one day suddenly decided we were vegetarians. We loved animals too much to eat them. We were really into ourselves, too, for doing it. We thought we were so cool. We eventually got out-of-touch over time but I stuck with it for 7 years, and who knows, maybe she's still going. But then my (now-ex)boyfriend shared his chicken with me when I came to his house, and it was delicious, and I was secretly converted. I did not want to eat any of the meat my parents made because it was not kosher, but when they would make fish, I started stealing chunks of fish under the guise of feeding them to the cat, and then eating most of them myself, in secret. I am not even kidding! It cracks me up to think about it, but I just couldn't tell my family. Then one day it all came out, and my dad took me to a fancy steakhouse just to watch me eat beef again. Hahahaha, so many random funny memories.

Like when I tell my mom if she gives my daughter Diet Coke, she could have seizures?

I can. If it weren't for chicken, I could easily be vegetarian. Not that I don't enjoy my meat, I just love poultry--chicken and turkey all the way.

I didn't think about the effects either. (I'm referring to my post regarding pork earlier.) At the time, I didn't even know that people could get sick after eating stuff they hadn't eaten in a long time. Maybe you were lucky...or I was unlucky.

And on an off note, can someone explain why I can't do dairy anymore? If it were up to me, I wouldn't have problems with dairy. I love my ice cream, my milkshakes, and pizza so much that I don't care if I'll feel crampy and nauseated afterward.

I know I always wanted to be a veg because I love animals SO much. But every attempt ultimately led me straight back into the arms of Mother Meat.

I try to "compromise" by buying grass fed beef and free-range chicken and eggs but obviously that's not remotely the same thing. Why do grilled chicken thighs and tenderloin have to be so darn tasty??
