UK Daily Mail article about being pretty...have you seen this?

I thought about this. I don't mind the self-confidence - I think that's great actually, and women SHOULD have that. It's the implication that women are so jealous of other women's looks and so threatened by them that they cannot be even civil to a beautiful woman, let alone be her friend, and what that says about us as a gender. That's very insulting - and then when the woman saying it doesn't seem to look any better than the rest of us, it's downright implausible. I think most of us do recognize the beauty in other women and in our friends. I certainly do. I object to the media telling me who and what is beautiful, and I think that sometimes it's better to let others appreciate someone's beauty than to throw it in their face.

They are not conceited, nor do I believe they are even aware of how beautiful they are (one was overweight most of her life).

Apparently that bubbleheaded twit thinks we're all shallow.

darn it, E, you beat me to that quote.

i am one of those people who thinks that Angelina Jolie is stunning and don't think too many people would disagree, even if she were to say so in public.

again, it does come down to symmetry - AJ's eyes are about the same size and evenly splaced in her face, her nose is straight and balanced, and when she smiles her teeth are perfect.

SB has one eye noticeably smaller than the other, her nose is bulbous at the end and skews to one side, and in at least a couple of photos, you can tell that her teeth are decidedly uneven on one side.

this is me speaking as a person with one eye WAY smaller than the other, a HUGE nose and small teeth that are chipped at the front from a skating accident.

never in a million years would i dare to call myself pretty - average is fine because it's what i am.

eta: for the record, i have had a lot of attention from men over the years simply due to my hair colour. while i have been fat for close to 20 years now and the attention is less than what it was when i was IN my 20s, one of my friends pointed out to me last year that men still do look at me because of the red hair. unlike "The Brick", i don't notice because i am a "sunglasses on, iPod on, head down" kind of person.

I don't think anyone particularly cares how pretty or not pretty she is. I think she's average, but beauty is a subjective thing and people's beauty is often reflective of their personality and how well you know them/care for them.

I think it's great she has confidence in herself, but I think the point people are making is that she looks like the rest of us, it's her attitude thats the problem and her long winded 'article' is a load of bs. It accuses all women of being equally shallow and and that we all hate on any women we feel is more attractive than ourselves which pi*ses me of and is insulting.

The fact that she thinks the comments it's generated prove her right shows just how stupid the woman is.

But the Daily Mail likes to make trouble and always seems to be trying to stir up hate for women one way or another.
some tweets about "The Brick" for your amusement:

Just been to Starbucks, when they asked my name and I told them Samantha Brick I was still asked to pay - WTF?

Some people deserve to get eggs thrown at them. Brick shaped eggs....made of bricks.

Man just accosted me to give me a Daffodil. Said it was for Marie Curie so I corrected him and told him my name was actually Samantha
Brick

Basically Samantha Brick is getting old and jealous of young prettier girls, so she surrounds herself with old desperate men to feel wanted.

So where will Samantha brick be first ? In the jungle or celeb Big brother ? X

Samantha brick is the worst role model for young kids and teens.kids- its what's on the inside of a person that counts. Don't judge on looks

Personally I think my foot is more attractive than Samantha Brick

"women do not like attractive women" says Samantha Brick who has apparently never heard of lesbians.

Samantha Brick on #ThisMorning... what a tool! Women don't dislike attractive women, it's just that's she's horribly arrogant.

With Samantha Brick on This Morning, ITV released this viewing device to reduce the dangerous effects of her beauty http://twitpic.com/95u1op

I bet if Samantha Brick auditioned for The Voice those judges chairs would turn around by themselves. By. Them. Selves.

The media making a fuss about a panda's procreation. Someone called Brick making a fool of themselves. Praise be, we're living in Anchorman!

Dear Samantha Brick, you have an absurdly high opinion of yourself despite your obvious character flaws; have you considered politics?

BREAKING: Organisers of Miss World have announced there will be no ceremony this year as they're simply awarding the title to Samantha Brick

*That* photo of Samantha Brick and her husband wasn't attractive enough. So I fixed it for her. http://yfrog.com/g0o3ptzj

and this last gem:

Hope the Mail are saving space tomorrow for Samantha Brick's reaction piece on the reactions to her piece about the reactions to her piece.

Samantha Brick’s Daily Mail Troll Continues, “Ten Out of Ten” Men Would ‘Fancy’ Her at a Party

"When I read the piece before I saw her, I was expecting a glossy-and-pouty lipped, bronzed and perfectly coiffed Adriana Lima-lookalike- I really was. (...) the greatest irony is that the woman who wrote it is very, very painfully average. And I am being incredibly charitable there."

i'd say that about sums it up...

I don't like the implication that if she ACTUALLY looked like one of those women, she might have a point (I think one of the articles I posted says something along those lines.) Basically, what they're saying is, this woman isn't beautiful, but Angelina Jolie and Adriana Lima ARE (even though most of the time we see them, they are styled/airbrushed/what have you - and that looking a certain way is their full-time job) so if you don't look like them, as few women in the real world do, you're not really beautiful. They're knocking all women down a peg just to put this one woman with issues in her place. We have to stop making comparisons when it comes to female beauty and just accept women as they are.

I get the impression that some women are kind of gleeful that she doesn't look like an airbrushed supermodel and just looks regular, because it makes them feel better. One's self-esteem shouldn't depend on others.

eta: I also hate the assumption that OBVIOUSLY we all think Angelina Jolie / Adriana Lima / fill in the blank is soooo beautiful... because we all have the same subjective beauty standard, and if we don't accept HER as the ideal to aspire to (and fail miserably), we must be a jealous hater. I have personally never found Angelina Jolie any more beautiful than many other women, famous or non, and don't get the hype over her - she's not any beauty standard for me. I wish the media would stop trying to convince me otherwise.

I truly believe this is her claim for fame or whatever, and it worked!
This woman is claiming to conventionally beautiful by UK standards or whatever. I think Angelina Jolie looks very unnatural and odd, but it's clear that she's considered a conventional beauty.

I don't mean to sound stuck-up, but I consider myself an attractive woman and I don't have problems with "women". I actually have a lot of female friends who I both love and cherish. What does being "pretty" have to do with how well you get a long with others? Yes, men may treat you better initially, but at the end of the day, you're a person just like anyone else. If you live on your beauty than you have bigger problems. She needs to work on her inner beauty.

Also, did anyone read that article she wrote about her husband?
Check out my personal blog

Angelina is widely regarded as a sex symbol in the US and UK and so on, so IMO by definition she's conventionally beautiful.

In my late teens/early 20s, I had nothing BUT problems with jealous females, and I wasn't even that cute. They just thought I thought I was cute because I had light skin and long-ish hair--traits that were apparently desirable to them. They were projecting their own insecurities onto me. They didn't bother to get to know me well enough to know that my self-esteem was in the toilet and had been for years. I look at all the stunningly gorgeous black females today and wonder why I had so much trouble back in the day. I couldn't have held a candle to them.

ETA: I tried everything I could to be as friendly as possible. But, there was no winning any of the battles, let alone the war.
