Do you have "The one who got away"?

When I was 18 a beautiful guy approached me at the library.
He was 27,half Native American/half Canadian & a pilot.
We started going out, but after a few weeks I dumped him because he was so intense.
Now, 4 years later, I sometimes think of him.
I don't remember his name, so I can't find him.
But I do remember that he said "you have the face of an angel"..I know guys say that to all girls, but it was cute.
Do you have a story like this?
I believe many people do!

I have many "Why didn't I...?" men. Guys that I wish I had done things a little differently with.

Only until someone else who may be "the one" came along.

I don't have any men who fit this, but I hope I was the one that got away for a few guys I dated. Probably not, though, lol.

Yeah, I had one. He was the only man I've ever seen and done a double take. LOL, I almost feel over my feet, very embarassing. I kept looking at him, because somehow I felt if I looked at him, he would seem less perfect to me. But he never did. Everytime I saw him he always looked all Ralph Lauren modely. I don't know many men like that in real life. (Only in NYC do they walk around like that all the time.) It was kind of scary to be around him because I felt like I was inside out or something, don't know how to explain it. I got to know him on a surface level and he was very shy and self-depreciating which made him more attractive to me. (He had been fat as a kid and still saw himself that way.) His family was from Spain and he spoke several languages and played the drums. He was also very spiritually minded and serious and wanted to take on the world.

We had the oddest conversations where we were always tripping all over each other when we talked. Awkward! It was.... interesting. But in the future, I'd like to meet someone that I'm attracted to but that makes me feel self-confident. I wish I would have been a healthier, more self assured me when I met him. We would have like 8 babies by now.
i had this one ... it was a heartbreaking story, and i always, always always wondered 'what if' - but had resigned myself to the fact that i'd made the biggest mistake in my life in choosing someone else over him ...

and then we found each other again after 8 years, were still just as much i love, and i'm moving to spain to be with him in june!

Yes My first real boyfriend. I call him the love of my life. Even after him I haven't loved anyone the way I loved him. We dated for 4 years. I was so, so stupid to let him go. I was young, I thought the grass was greener on the other side but boy it wasn't! He was a sweet, loving person. It's been 10 years since I let him go and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about him. He's married now and has a little boy.

A couple months ago I had a scary dream about him and just needed to contact him to see if he was ok. I knew his address and phone number but didn't contact him. I found out he was in Iraq on his second tour. Thanks to the help from this board I got his email address and emailed him. He was happy to hear from me. I haven't received another email from him in a few months. I guess it's hard to keep in contact when you're in the middle of a war. I check the casualty reports daily hoping not to find his name and thankfully I haven't.

The biggest regret in my life is breaking up with him. I have no illusions of us getting back together. It would be nice just to hear from him once in a while to see how he's doing. I'll always love him.

Luckily I was persistent...
No, because I'm married to the only man I ever dated. We started dating when we were 17. Dated for six years and will be married 15 years this June.

He is "the one". I could not ask for a better husband or friend. We've been through some really tough times with my health. I've had back surgery nine times and he's been there for everyone of them. He is my rock.

Sorry this got so long winded. I'm just thankful everyday that God sent him into my life.

Mine got away right after we met. He went to Korea for a year. Luckily we kept in touch and when he got back, we knew we did't want that to happen again, so on a whim I moved to Japan to be with him, and we got married and he will never get away again! (Well, he is kind of away right now (Iraq), but he is still MINE, so I guess that doesn't count)!

There are a few men that I wonder "what if" and don't know where they are now. But most of the other tentative, maybe it might happen some day men are all still around.

Mayim, Beautiful and inspirational story. Good luck!

See, my problem is giving it my all in relationships, conquests - NO MATTER WHAT. So, really - I don't have a "one who got away". I don't know if that is good or bad.
