Happy May Day curlies!
International Workers' Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When my siblings and I were little, my mom would buy flowers for us to deliver to our oldest neighbors on the block to thank them for all the hard work they'd contributed to society over the years. Then for the past 5 years when I lived in Chicago again, I participated in the giant immigrant rights/worker rights march-- thousands of people of different ethnicities marching together for the same things. Beautiful! Today, I will march in Philly to protest the behavior of the banks. Hope you get to do something for our rights today too

Happy May Day!
Diaspora: what a nice tradition that your mom shared with you and your siblings! It's too bad that May Day has been so neglected in this country lately.

Maybe because some people shy away from Pagan fertility festivals. Too bad.

oh yes... Happy Beltane to all those of the pagan-persuasion!
unfortunately, with the current anti-union climate in North America, and its negative associations with the old Soviet system, i can't see May Day being viewed positively any time soon.

Yeah
I didn't realize that Chicago is unique in that so many people celebrate it there. Was kinda disappointed today in Philly.
And Happy Anniversary, BlackAngelPlayah!

Probably because the US already has a Labor Day. When I saw the title, I immediately thought of the religious holiday.

Blessed Beltane to all! I don't do much special...I sweep my block from top to bottom...do a little meditation and light some candles! I am able to schedule all the Pagan holidays off from work...so I'm off the rest of the week!!

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

I didn't do ANYTHING!! I am SO off the path! There's still a few minutes of the day left. Maybe I can at least get some meditation done or something.

Meditation is good too. I usually do that on most sabbats since I don't have anyone to practice with. Usually trying to calm my high strung self down and stay in the moment is a significant practice for any day.

I think you are right, though May Day and Labor Day historically were about different things, with May Day being celebrated internationally by workers in part to express the power they had when united, and not just for things like the 8 hour workday and better working conditions, but for shared ownership of production. (Before it was adopted by workers it was a celebration of spring/Pagan holiday as has been mentioned.) Labor Day in American was created in part to downplay the more radical traditions and international unity/worker's power that May Day represented. Most countries do not celebrate Labor Day, but they do celebrate May Day. May Day was founded because of the Pullman strike (violent attacks by millitary on demonstrating or striking workers), and the Haymarket massacre (more violence towards demonstrating workers and government hangs 4 anarchists who were demonstrating) happened on a May Day demonstration too. Both happened in Chicago but shook the world.
