Default Boo!! Family vent #7995 UPDATE

My SIL is getting a hysterectomy. Poor thing is younger than me, but she has had many many problems with her ...plumbing. So this might be the answer.

She will be having the surgery and staying with her parents in N Carolina for an undermined amount of time. (normal recovery is 8 weeks. She aint never coming back) The kids are staying in Maryland with my BIL, which means....

My MIL will be flying up to take care of them. Which means...

Her dog will be at my house, stanking up the place, slobber , barking, and getting hair everywhere. And god help you if you walk away from the table, b/c that beast will eat your food, right off the plate.

fuque!

Well...it could be worse. At least you're not getting the kids AND the dog.

Why does the dog have to be in the house?

True. There is a silver lining.

The other BIL will be getting married in Sept. My husband, other BIL, my son and MIL will be in the wedding party. Which leaves me, SIL and her kids. I foresee me watching those kids. I told my husband that we are NOT staying in the wedding guest hotel. I'm not having any surprise visits.

Bad enough the wedding is in Alabama.

It's a house dog...

Sometime we keep the beast on the cover deck..but then the barking starts.

Is this the SIL who never does anything and your MIL was taking care of the kids when she had pneumonia? Didn't you say in the last thread she said she wanted to have more kids? Problem solved. She won't be a bad mother to more kids.

And when you say she ain't never comin' back...do you mean she ain't never comin' back to her husband and kids? Isn't your BIL kinda doing the single dad thing already from what I remember for the most part (if I'm thinking of the right person, I might totally have the wrong poster here)? Like taking the kids to and from daycare, etc? Yeah, it's totally going to suck for the kids to not have mommy in the house, but from what I understood from previous posts (again, if I'm thinking it was you and this is the right family situation I remember), it sounds like mommy wasn't really a huge part of their lives in the first place (sleeping all day, having grandma taking care of them, being at daycare all day and your BIL taking care of them when they were home...forgive me if I'm totally thinking of another poster here).

I totally feel your pain on the dog front. I like dogs, had dogs all my life until I moved out of my parents house. Now I realize that I currently don't want them. Too much hassle...especially when I'm really not home. And when I go to house-sit/dog-sit at my parents house I'm extra reminded of why I don't have one because they do the exact same stuff! Except there are two and the Jack Russell Terrier climbs up on the counter if you leave the bar-stools out and eats what he can find on the counter. Hell no! The other one is tall enough that he can reach the counter just by lifting up his head. For Thanksgiving, he pulled a whole smoked Turkey breast off the counter. Dog almost got a boot-kick out the door from me (no, people, I really don't abuse dogs...it was a figure of speech). The rest of the family thought it was funny. Ummm, no. It's our food and he should be taught not to do that, people! So, yeah...I'm with you on the dog front. 100%.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.

Yup, same SIL.

I was being silly when I said that she wasn't coming back. I just think that her recovery time will be longer than most.

I'm so mad I could spit fire and eat broke glass. That dog is at my house every 6-8 weeks for at least 7 days,

In a desperate move, my husband offered to buy me something every time the dog stays.

This time, he will finance my trip to DragonCon this year.

I'll take it!

Sounds like a fair trade-off to me to have your husband bribe you with something nice to get over the shudders of dealing with the dog!

I also agree with someone else who suggested bark collars. They don't have to be the shock kind. I think there is one that puts out a puff of fragrance dogs hate. Or another that emits a high pitch sound only they can hear. It's been a long while since I looked into them, so I can't remember for sure.

You are very understanding. You have more involvement with, and help, your in laws more than I could tolerate!

Smelly slobbery dog in the house for 8 weeks. I have nothing but sympathy.

For the record, 8 weeks recovery seems like a little much. My mother had hers done 15 years ago and I don't think she took that long. Then again, my Aunt carried a pillow against her stomach for months, so I know the type.

8 weeks recovery? That seems like an overly long time, especially for a younger person.

One of the benefits of being a cranky old lady who no longer cares what others think. I can just say NO.

Want to borrow my truck? NO
Can I stay with you while I look for a house? NO
Can you feed the cats/take care of the dog/water the plants/bring in my mail while I'm on vacation? NO (and I love animals of all kinds. Just don't see any reason to take care of other people's pets. that's why they have pet sitters and boarding kennels.)

Getting old has it's benefits. : )

the dog wouldn't be at MY house for 8 weeks.
if it was cute dog or a well trained dog, sure.
but a big slobbery dog? no, eww.
can't it be put in a dog hotel or something?

My boss had a hysterectomy last summer. She was off work for 8 weeks. (It was so nice and peaceful in the office ).

She loves working; loves her job; would rather be at work than at home it seems. She has sent emails late at night (after 11pm) and on the weekend.

Who knew 8 weeks could go by so fast?
