I can relate! On my next apt I'll have a 4 hour session with a tens unit strapped to my face and then they will take a mold to make my guard. I'll have an upper and lower that has to stay in. I'm not looking forward to that. Especially getting used to talking with it in.

4 hours?
What are they doing in that time? Is that just to wear the tens and get the imprints made?

A friend who is a GP once told me that if you have warning before a faint it's generally nothing serious, its when you hit the deck with no warning that it's time to worry. Having said that you'll feel better once you've seen a doctor. Hope you're feeling better as I type

That's interesting.
And I do feel better today thank you.
I'm beginning to think I was just really tired.

It's supposed to help him get an accurate reading of how my jaw muscles contract and relax. The time seemed excessive to me but I guess they will take their time on each setting. Increase and decrease the strength, etc... Then he will factor that in when making the guard. He takes the mold but adds to it where it is needed so my bite is in the most natural and relaxed place. When I adjust to it, he will toss the guard and build my teeth up to match the correct bite.

Hmm, I wonder if my dentist would do that? I'll speak to him about it. Annoyingly he's a locum because my dentist is on maternity leave. I might ask him where he's going afterwards because he's really good.

I would ask and see. This process costs an arm and a leg but it should correct the majority of the problem. At least it will correct the pain from everything being out of wack. I'll still have to watch the teeth grinding.
My dentist gave me some handouts on it and I believe it mentions training and conferences he's attended in Europe. I'll see if I can find it this week and let you know more about the method.

Oh, I forgot to mention I'm being referred for physiotherapy for my jaw too.
I got a leaflet from the dental hospital telling me the do's and don'ts and one of the don'ts is
'Don't do any activity that involves keeping your mouth open for extended periods of time'.
I of course had my mind in the gutter

Rotfl. That's exactly where my mind went when I read that sentence.
I'll have to look into physiotherapy.

what a timely thread! I literally passed out at work the other day and it was so scary. We were all training in a hot/stuffy room and I started feeling dizzy and nauseous so I asked to go to the bathroom. I didn't make it 3 steps before everything faded, and the next thing I knew someone was helping me to the floor saying "give her some air, give her some air!" then a few seconds later my head cleared and i was fine, but it was SO embarrassing on my first day! It's happened to be a few times before, but usually when i'm taking a hot shower. My stomach wasn't empty, so I don't think it was blood sugar...nearest I can figure is my blood pressure plummeted for some reason

Those few seconds being out of it are awful especially when you can hear and feel what's going on but you can't do a thing about it.
I hope you feel better NYCurlyGirly.

I don't faint so much as tumble all over myself on bad blood pressure days... People think I'm either drunk, or, in the case of hugging my guy friends, hitting on them.

Omg, this thread! It's causing me anxiety CL.
I have never fainted in my whole life, but I have nearly passed out a few times. The first (and most embarrassing) time was when I was 18 and I was taking a shower in the my mom's bathroom. Midway through, I started feeling funny so I tried to hurry up. That made things worse and when I started feeling the blood rush to my head, I shut the water off and leaned to grab my towel. In the same motion, I got dizzy and nearly blacked out. I hit the door handle, and literally tumbled out of the bathroom door completely naked. My mom was in the in bed, watching TV, and screamed out "what the hell is going on?!" when I fell to the ground. Lol Good times.

I've passed out or fainted for various reasons over the years.
Too much alcohol, too many meds, low blood pressure, low blood sugar, mitral valve prolapse.
It's always scary, especially when you have a bit of warning, get dizzy and woozy, and just know that things are going to go black.
As others have said, go get checked out and make sure you doctor is aware of it.
