Did anyone watch 20/20?

It was about kids living in poverty in Camden NJ. That little Ivan just broke my heart. I cried through the whole show. All their stories were heartbreaking but Ivan really touched me. He was a homeless child and all he wanted was a house to live in. He was such a smart, sweet little 5 year old. I hope someone can save these poor kids. I felt so bad for them. I pray that they won't become statistics but the odds are so stacked against them. There but for the grace of God it could have been anyone of us.

Makes me realize that for all my complaints of being "broke" I have nothing to complain about. I have a roof over my head. I don't go hungry, I don't have to sleep on the floor with roaches and no heat or electricty. We have a third world country right here in the US that gets ignored.

Here is a link to Urban Promise and organization trying to help these kids. You can also make a donation to a specific child in the story. I'm going to make a donation to Ivan.
You don't have to blow out my flame to make yours burn brighter.

When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.

How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours.
I watched and the little girl who wanted to be a judge just broke my heart

She is so smart, and so articulate, but as you said, the odds are just so stacked against them. Not wanting this to turn into a debate at all, but the chances of her dropping out of school, or becoming pregnant early on are just so much higher.

Her Mom is trying so hard to keep that family together, but it must seem like such a losing battle....

I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.
Audrey Hepburn
I wanted to watch but completely forgot. We watched Cars instead for the 500th time

They also pointed out there are 20,000 other kids in the same situation as the ones shown on the program, which is important to remember when you only see one adorable kid on a TV program. They all have the potential to be just as adorable, and they ALL need help.

If we all do a little something to help even just one maybe that can start to make a difference.

I started watching but honestly, please don't think less of me, but I had to turn the channel it upset me so much. I wish these kids all the best and will be praying for them daily. I also filled out an application for the Big Brothers Big Sisters program yesterday.
2a/3a very fine and thin waves/curls
DevaCurl NoPoo/Angel 2x weekly

Miracle baby Victoria Elise arrived 08/10/08
I watched this and at the time I thought I should do something. Then you post this and I feel someone is telling me to stop thinking about it and DO something. I see so many ads about children in other countries that need help yet I feel the children right here in our backyards are needing our help. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the link! Ivan and the girl who wanted to be a judge touched us too. It makes you think about things. I'll whine about something and then you see a show like this and it's like a slap in the face. The odds are so stacked against these poor kids.

I forget that their are children in our back yards that actually need just as much help as the ones in other countries too.
2b/3a, primarily use Jessicurl and DevaCurl products, Curls Hair Tea conditioner and various gels. I'm modified CG-ish since 5/04.
I'm sorry, my point was just don't earmark Ivan when there are a lot of needy kids, and probably a lot of people will pick him out too. It is great, though, that you're doing something!
