Strapless Lace Dress | FOREVER21 - 2002928893
I saw that dress and thought it was cute. But i'm paranoid about strapless dresses like that because i dont have anything to keep it up. you catch my drift?

Do you have a sequinny or rhinestony or otherwise super dressy cardi or wrap or bolero...or dressy statement necklace...and dressy heels...and a dressy clutch or minaudierre?.

You might be able to pull that off in black. But I would hide the drawstring under a rhinestone brooch or something.
I'm 29, but when it comes to dressing up for things like this, I'm just lost. i never really had to!

Alot of things seemed geared to my age group, either looks "too old" or "too young" imo.

I havent shopped for accessories yet, I was going to this weekend.

the drawstring, is really not a drawstring. its more like a tie. i was going to wrap it twice so i could tie it in the back. i have a flower pin I could always use to hide it.

i also have jeweled hair pins i was going to wear. I was going to put my hair in an up due and dress it up with the pins. i got them during prom season.

Have you ordered form them? how are they at returns??

I like this dress, but once again cant promise it wont fall down.
That dress is too young, I think.

Bc you are petite, you should be able to find tons of stuff at the cheapy mall teeny bopper stores...it is prom/wedding season after all.

Not suggesting a prom or wedding dress. Just saying, lots of girls and women need dresses, all kinds, this time of year.

I'm thinking something like a black or jewel tone loose (no waist, NOT form fitting) just-above-the-knee, knit tank dress w/ rhinestones. You see them all day long at Deb, FXXI, Maurice's, even H&M.

tape to keep your clothing from moving:
Amazon.com: Braza Flash Tape (1009): Clothing

I recommend checking out the second hand stores. Look in all size ranges. If you can sew, you may be able to alter a large size gown into something special. I've found dresses and sweaters with great appliques or sequined areas that can be re-used.

In general, I actually seem to find great clothing when I'm browsing and not shopping for a specific event. Especially at end of season sales.

A long skirt, dressy blouse, and nice jewellery might work. DSC_1654 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I'm not much bigger than you (5'0", 120lbs) and recently had the same issue. I found something at Dillards. juniors dresses were 40% off.

Those a cute in a club way, but, isn't mid thigh kind of short for black tie?

Hun, it's a link to a clothing site. Look at some of the other options available. Do you want to get a dress or no...?

Yes. I really do! thanks for your help, i really do appreciate it! I hate shopping! especially when I have no clue what I'm looking for or I might have to buy on line and its no gaurantee the dress will fit. I hate going to the taylors. I went once it was was a horrible experience! I've been scared emotionally!!

I haven't read through all of the replies, so forgive me if I say something that has already been mentioned.

I don't think it's pertinent that you wear a gown to this event, especially since you'll be working. If you find that a shorter cocktail dress is more comfortable, then, by all means, wear one!

You also stated that you'll be handling some of the dogs. If you're worried about picking up dog hair, look for a dress in a slick fabrics, such as satin. However, most slick fabrics are more difficult to clean stains out of...so keep that in mind! If you go for another fabric, try this little trick: dampen a sheet of fabric softener and rub it all over your dress. This should help to repel the dog hair. No matter what you decide on, though, be sure to pack a small lint roller in your clutch!

Also! Try not to pick anything to too many frills, sequins or thingies hanging off of it...you don't want to pups to get their claw caught on anything and snag your dress!

Haha, absolutely! It's so simple! It comes to you dry cleaned (although I had mine cleaned again...just to be certain), and when you have to return it, you just put it in the pre-labeled bag that they send with the dress and stick it in the mail.

I rented this one for my prom:

I would love the orange if it was shorter. I could see a puppy totally making me trip!

Who ever thought of renting out dresses?!?!?! I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

I'm really falling for the one shoulder dresses. This is one of my favorites:

Nicoletta Dress | Rent The Runway

I'm going to go to Kohl's this weekend and see what they have. I'm also going to look more into the dress rental. I will report back with my progress.

Thanks everyone again for all the help!
