Wait, I know that cold sores are one of the herpes viruses, along with chicken pox. But it can actually be passed to the genitals? I know several people with cold sores, but I've never heard of any of them having this problem with their partners!

Not only that - and I've posted this before - but I read that they're beginning to believe it can be passed through transfer on non-porous surfaces, like sitting on a toilet seat that somebody with herpes has sat on. You know you can pass cold sores from drinking glasses, so why not?

Hole carp! I had no idea, but yeah, it would make sense

Your friend should know that active herpes also makes him more susceptible to other STDs, including HIV. And since he's having unprotected sex, that's a very real possibility. There is treatment for herpes that significantly reduces the amount of outbreaks.

Sorry, but your friend sounds like a real jacka$s.

ITA. Sorry, that would bother me about a friend. I'm not very judgemental at all until you start hurting other people. He is knowingly giving other girls herpes possibly. That's just beyond wrong. Of course they are pretty stupid having unprotected sex with him but that's another topic.

I agree with this. I wonder how he would feel if a girl knowingly had herpes and then had unprotected sex with him?

Thanks for posting the quote to that article. It was my OB/GYN that told me it could be passed from the mouth to genitals during oral sex. I never tried it to find out if it is in fact true but I won't be taking the chance, thanks anyway.

Now the toilet thing I had not heard before but it kind of makes sense and that is scary!

Hey guys. Thanks for all of your replies. To whomever said my friend is a *******......I agree. I love him to death. I really do. He tends to think he's very invincible. I really shouldn't bother with this situation but I do not want him to get in trouble. I'm going to schedule a doc appointment for him and take him, whether he wants to go or not. If he does find out he has herpes for sure, he can choose if he wants to take meds or not. But if he doesn't have herpes for whatever reason and only needs a one time antibiotic/cream, I'm getting it for him.

What a lazy bizznitch lol.

Yes, you can pass oral herpes along by oral sex. Here's something even weirder: I got a herpes infection of the eye after I lent my umbrella to a co-worker who had a cold sore. Those herpes viruses are energetic little buggers.

Ya, I'm pretty sure you can get herpes anywhere that has a mucus membrane. Then again, chicken pox, and shingles are herpes too, so I imagine you can get herpes on any part of your body.

I wish there wasn't such a stigma attached to the phrase "genital herpes" because then maybe more people would get medical treatment for it. The only difference in genital herpes is that it occurs on the genitalia. But it's still a herpes virus.
