Do you buy replica bags?

Like Tree21Likes

A recent thread on a Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Trevi for sale (against the rules, btw) got me thinking about replica bags and their popularity. It was very obvious to me that the bag in question was a fake. Have you ever bought or do you buy replica bags?

If so, why? If not, why not?
No. Partly because it feels like cheating/stealing and partly because most of them are brands I don't buy anyway, like LV and Coach.

Fakes? No, never.

1) I wouldn't play myself like that. If I want the real thing, I figure out a way to get the real thing. Why skimp on a piece of crap? I am worth the splurge. Why cheat myself out of the great feeling that comes from treating myself to something nice and well-deserved?

2) They often look fake and I wouldn't be fooling anyone. Like wearing a wig or a weave. Ugh!

3) It is illegal to sell that junk and buying it often supports the drug trade and/or organized crime.

4) If I like the brand, I don't wnt to devalue it by adding to the proliferation of fakes and knock offs. I want to keep its quality and image high.

No. And not for some morally sound reason.

1. I'm just cheap on clothes anyway. It would be obvious and ridiculous if I were to carry around a designer bag with my Old Navy outfit I bought on clearance.

2. I find logo covered things to be pretentious looking.

I have a couple of Louis Vuitton knockoff bags, and an actual Gisele in my closet that I don't use.

Last week I carried around a Wonder Woman bag

I wouldn't buy a knock-off on principle. Plus, most of them are very obviously fake.

I do have a real LV Speedy bag that I bought 25 years ago. I was young, single, and had just received the largest paycheck I had ever seen in my life. I splurged! It's a classic LV shape and I take good care of it. I'm sure I will be enjoying it for many more years to come.

The above also answers the OP's question, I believe.

No. But mostly because I prefer the purses I find at Target.

No, never. Moral reasons - I find the whole fake-goods industry sickening. I could never support this trade. I also find fakes cheap looking and very obvious. My cousin carries around this huge fake Burberry bag, that has tattered seams, mis-aligned print, and a broken zipper.

Absolutely not. I think it's cheap and tacky.

If buying an inexpensive purse is a priority then there are lots of nice bags you can buy that aren't knock-offs.

No. I could care less about a bag's name brand, as long as I like it, I don't care if it is a name brand or not.

The main reason for not buying the real thing is that I don't want to be years and years wearing the same thing. and I am cheap. And things, go out of style. The bag will eventually look old. Might not break but it will look old.

If I want cheap, or cheaper, I will go to TJMaxx or Marshalls. Get the real thing for less.
I do...

I dont really care about the brands themselves, i just go by the bag. 98% of the time I dont even know what knock-off Im buying, I just buy the bag. I'm just as happy buying a bag from Target, Dots, Walmart, wherever since it's never about name brands.

Why, I think part of it is the hunt. I've never gotten them from a party or anything like that. I've always gotten them while in NYC. Its an adventure.

I start off with no idea what i want. Find the guys. See a bag i like, and then somehow it always ends up being an adventure. the places they take you, well, it just doesn't seem right. I think I got hooked when I came across a secret door in Chinatown. It was opened by kicking a certain spot at the bottom of the door.

There is one bag that i would actually buy if money was no object and its the LV Neverfull. I loved that thing, but the strap was crappy. If I found that same shape at another store (like Target), i would buy it in a heartbeat.
I'm not a fan of LV and logo-covered bags either. If they want me to advertise for them, then they should pay me.

I wouldn't buy a fake not so much on principle but because I wouldn't want people looking and judging my fake purse. Beats the point of having a designer item.
No, but if it's a nice looking knock off bag Id get it, but nothing obvious with logos on it so that it's obviously a knockoff. I like nice looking bags but most of them are too expensive. I prefer not to spend over $100 on a purse. I don't realy know what designer bags look like so I wouldn't even know.
I think it's tacky if it's just reproducing the logo. I guess a knockoff with a really unique look could be okay, especially if the logo is subtle or absent.
No. I like things to last.

ETA: One of the most ridiculous things I see is women who look like slobs, dressed in the sloppiest clothes with dirty feet and ragged toenails, wearing flip flops and carrying a "designer" bag. It screams fake.

Ladies, you aren't fooling anyone.
