At the suggestion of a friend I tried the Trader Joe's instant coffee as iced coffee and I've been having one every day since. For a 24oz cup I do:

2 tsp instant coffee
1 tsp sugar
2 spoon fulls of vanilla syrup
add 1/4 hot water and stir to dissolve
put in about 1 cup ice
add 1 cup cold water
top with milk or half and half and stir

I'm still going to try and find the right cold brew ratio for my tastes, but for right now this is so quick and easy I've just been doing this.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

Do you think there is something special about TJ's coffee...and specifically the instant? Have you tried the recipe w/ other coffee?

(And if there is something about TJ coffee that you love especially, do they sell it whole bean?)

I think instant coffee in general is pretty nasty, but theirs works fine for me in iced coffee. The only other instant I would try it with might be the Starbucks Via packets.

I've tried a few of TJ's regular coffee and I don't really have a favorite that I'm nuts about, but they do sell whole bean coffee.

Cross post:

I'm going to sneak out to Trader Joes at lunch and get some instant coffee. What else so I need to make iced coffee?

(I will hate you ladies if I get addicted)

Now this is just wrong. I've always loved this kind of cup/tumbler but they seem to have become more popular and are easier to find! I saw the ones with the rubber hand grips at Kohls in Santa Rosa. I hope they have them at my store, now to pick!

I'm partial to the ones with hand grips, esp the turquoise one. I like those designs/colors better. I also like the top middle and bottom middle.

Today I hunt for the turquoise tumbler after work.

I made some cold brew last night using Dunkin Donuts dark, they were out of Bustelo. The supply tends to dry up here from time to time. I doubled the recipe (1/3 cup grounds/1 1/2 cup water) and used the french press. Does anyone really have a french press that's that small? All of mine are 32oz+.

I made coconut (1 1/2 tsp) & vanilla (1 1/2 tsp) simple syrup. I'm going to have to add more extract because it was too sweet when I added enough to the coffee to taste the van/coco flavor. Either that or less sugar. It'll be a fun & tasty experiment.

I got mine at kohls and it was 50% off.

That's what I'm hoping for, they were on clearance in Santa Rosa. I saw some at Walmart yesterday but they had no character whatsoever.

I was in a Starbucks last week and they had a big selection of tumblers with their logo on it, although I wish they'd pay me to advertise for them if I was going to carry one.

I should have grabbed one while I was there Springy, they had just tons of them! They've pretty much stopped selling them here for some reason.

For those of you who might be having a hard time cleaning those fabulous reusable straws:
Amazon.com: Dr. Brown's Natural Flow Cleaning Brush, 4 Pack: Baby

I have to reorder but that 4 pack lasted 2 years of cleaning our straws and the kitteh's water fountain pump. Don't be thrown off by the "baby" thing. I think it's meant for sippy cups.

I bought one of those Starbucks ones and I really like it because it's double walled. I also like buying the 3 packs of extra reusable straws. I use it for my cold brews. I have a different one for alcoholic beverages at the lake

Heeheeheehee. They had turquoise & pink, no orange or blue. I'd have liked an orange one too.

My straws fit!

I was so DUHlerious last night. This morning I'm thinking, this coffee's good! Wait did I use the white measuring cup? (that's the 1/4 cup) Yup I did, it's in the dishwasher and the 1/3 (red) is clean and in the drawer. It'll be even stronger tomorrow with this batch. Lordy help me.

Oohhhh, I love it missbanjo!!

I made some cold brew last night and I did 2TBS coffee to 1 cup water because I'm a weenie, but I've realized I need to make it much stronger so it can be more of a concentrate I can add a little cold water to when I mix up my drink. I'll try a small batch again tonight keep at it until I get it right.

I found Bustelo at Safeway yesterday and brewed a big batch overnight. Oh my heaven. It's so much better than the other two I tried the last few days (Dunkin Dark, Eight o'clock). I knew it would be but dammmmmmm

Can't thank you enough for posting this. I was going to ask if anyone had ideas, since it says not to use bleach (at least on mine.) I used a Q-tip, but it didn't reach the middle--and there's definitely something there. Ordered the brushes and can't wait to get them.

YES! I found some near me as well I loooove it for Iced Coffee!

I am now using Pilon, and it's similar to Bustelo, and also very tasty.
