Pool maintenance - help!
I have a quick-set pool, 8'x30'. I don't know the brand. It is several years old, but was only used for one season. We got it back out, but the pump no longer works. I guess the pumps on these pools suck and only last 1 season anyway. My dad handled all this stuff before so I really have no idea what I'm doing. He's advising, but I'm stuck with most of the work and I'm exhausted. I've literally spent all day with this pool!
I've done some reading, and figured out the chemical part. I also went to a pool store. She couldn't advise on a pool this size, other than it does need a filter. I thought being so small, a good pool vac may work. I bought a sucky manual one from Wal-mart. My dad seems to think a pump is only good for circulating the chemicals and that the chemicals will be adequate for removing bacteria from a pool this size. The only pumps avaiable for these pools are not very good is what I've read. I hate to have to buy a whole new one, and don't even know if the tubes would fit on my pool. Do all replacement pumps for this size of pool work on all brands? They come in Intex and Summer Escapes for those brands of pool, and don't seem to be universal from the description. I guess I will go back to Wal-mart which sells the SE brand before I buy, if that's the route you think I should go. Would a pool vac be adequate? I cannot believe the maintenance it takes for a pool. I've spent probably $30 just on chemicals and haven't bought anything for PH yet. I have my old testing kit which tested my pool at normal, but don't know how reliable it is since it's been in the garage 4 years. Can someone just tell me what all is absolutely necessary to have? Thank you!
