I completely agree with the disrespect toward jobs that don't require a college degree (and even some that do, teachers for example). It's both someone not taking the job seriously and others not respecting the value of the person and the work they are doing that contribute to this, in my opinion.

I know plenty of 16 and 17 years old that refuse to work at a fast food job. I know plenty of teenagers and adults that believe these people are "lazy", "stupid", or "less than".

Customer service people take beatings on a daily basis from people that live in a culture where people feel entitled to have what they want, when they want, exactly how they want it.

I've seen people snap their fingers at restaurant servers with attitude. It is horrible.

Of course this doesn't excuse the behavior of subpar employees, but I think it's certainly a factor in how things are in certain industries.

A man at least in his 70's was my cashier at WalMart the other day. He was so slow, and obviously new, but I was nice and respectful to him.

I felt so bad because I know people are going to be impatient and rude to him. The poor man probably worked at the same company for 40 years and they made him take early retirement, and his SS doesnt cover his expenses. Its not fair.

I agree, greenjumper. 200%. People seem out of touch with reality, IMO.

Here we go again:

I just went to the gas station and a 14-15 year old boy was running the register for his grandmother. He had his iPod blasting, headphones in, and and was paying attention to nothing. I kept trying to ask for change, and he kept screaming "huh? what?"

Is it that hard to hit pause or take the headphones out?
