I don't have a problem with any of them but the cone of shame. The others were punished by the justice system and parents. I have issues with teachers doing this type of thing if it's not done in consultation with parents. Just suspend them or give them Friday/Saturday school or in school suspension.

I will say this, though, if you shame your kid as a parent you're going to have to deal with the bullying your kid gets as a result of your public shaming. Bullying is real, and can be devastaing in many cases.

I am embarrassed to admit this, but we would've just laughed in her face or ran away.

That said, the first girl's face is priceless and you can totally tell she will NEVER ever post any controversial pics ever again.

I think it might be effective for thieves and people who commit petty crimes to be publicly humiliated though. I would be so ashamed having to pose for 4.5 hours with a sign that said I stole from a 9 year old.
LOL @ bold

I think it really does depend on the situation and the offense.

Skipping jury duty? I doubt that guy has been shamed. Maybe he had to work. Or maybe associates with a lot of criminals and didn't want to get involved. Or maybe he's not very smart and realizes he wouldn't be effective.

Bullying someone? The announcing it on a sign probably gives the kid ~more~ bully cred.

I talk too much and am disrespectful???? Who cares?

Some of this is pretty stupid.

Telling everyone her son peed the bed for 8 years?

Only effective if he exposed someone else's embarrassing medical problem...otherwise that's just weird.

There's not much I am really ashamed or or embarrassed about. So such a punishment would probably be more annoying to me than useful.

And I have to think if these punishments are meted out in small towns, they are probaby more embarrassing for the perpetrators' kids than for the purpetrators themselves. Especially the Walmart Thief ones. I could see a kid, especially one from a poor family, catching hell at school if his mom was put on blast for stealing something at Walmart.

Parents were the MASTERS of public shaming when I was little! I have gotten plenty a a$$ whoopin' in front of friends/buddies. Very effective. As you'll remember, back then your parents say "Sit down, NOW." kids would... (Gasp!!!) SIT DOWN!

Now days I hear parents begging little Joseph to "Please sit down.. Jo.. Jo.. JOSEPH... Sit down.. Sit.. Please? Joseph.." While the kid DESTROYS the entire DOCTORS OFFICE. "He's such a hand full.."

My mom would tell me ONCE... And I knew to sit down!!

Far as adults, it's probably more effective than jail, which is now like camp to some people! No one likes embarrassment. It's a great deterrent. Plus, they are adults... Quit f'ing up..

I once got into so much trouble (we were shooting squirt guns at passing cars, and one of them stopped) that I locked myself in the bathroom so my father couldn't get to me and drag me out to apologize and be punished. (Well, I did get punished, but I stayed in that bathroom a loooooooong time.)

I hate hearing parents asking children to behave as well. Kids rarely volunteer to be well-mannered.

I actually looked at the page, every punishment was GREAT! The teacher with the cone may have been a LITTLE out of line. A LITTLE!! But not much. LoL!

I'm ambivalent about the ones involving kids as I'm inclined to agree that shaming wouldn't be effective for some of them. I didn't mind the adult ones. They're old enough to know better.
