No bridges nearby!

I believe Arthur, the sidekick of "The Tick", was also a moth (man).

I think luna moths are beautiful. I love all moths and butterflies. I think they are the most lovely! They make me happy! When I was a little girl I use to kidnap caterpillers to watch them transform, they always died!

I hate moths but have to say Luna moths do look quite pretty (never heard of them before). I'd run a mile if I saw one though, like curlypearl - I hate things flying near me. I practically ran through the butterfly house at the zoo one time when my SO was taking photo's and actually said the f-word in front of my children when, at another zoo, I was foolish enough to attempt the bat enclosure!

Lucky! I miss seeing bald eagles. 3 had a roost across from my grandparents house. I would sit in the yard and watch them for hours. I have nothing against hunters or gun ownership so keep that in mind when I say, some idiot rednecks with guns killed them. I have not seen one outside of captivity since. That was the early 80's.

I am over ran with hawks, turkeys, guineas, and the occasional stray chicken that roams to the top of my mountain.

Oh, and owls! A family of owls just moved in beside my house, and I couldn't be happier. Well, if I can get a picture I will be ecstatic. They keep moving further back in the trees when I try.

Wait a minute ---- you can't legally kill a bald eagle.

Which is probably where the idiot redneck description comes in.

Like iroc said, that's exactly where the idiot redneck with a gun comes in. I can not stand that. That was done to simply, "show off". I firmly believe that if a person hunts they should use what they can, as a food source, and not hunt strictly for sport, specific parts, or bragging rights.

And only species that are not endangered please.

I was 8 or 9 so no, I cried. Luckily, I didn't see it but I was upset when I heard.

I honestly can't remember what my grandparents did. It was impossible to tell who was hiding in the woods, shooting, period.

It was. I think my papaw talked to someone about it, but again, I can't remember for sure. That was a long time ago. At that point only one wildlife officer worked several counties. People got away with much much more.

They were incredible to watch. They had their nests in dead trees, across the road from my grandparents house, next to the river bank. A big mountain stood behind them. *Sigh* My grandparents kept binoculars by their picture window to look at them. We were all upset.

Despite idiot rednecks, bald eagles and other birds of prey have made a pretty good return. I think DDT killed more birds than rednecks, so now that DDT is getting out of the food chain, big birds are better off. I see lots of big birds in the wild now...and I didn't see ANY when I was a child. Huge change for the better over the last 40ish years.

Oh, I agree, but killing bald eagles is beyond the pale....they're our national symbol!

I think I'm going to go back to thinking about Mothman. Or male moths. Or moths in general.

It is incredible that you got to see one in your yard, RCW. I'm glad they are numbering up in the wild again. The next time I speak with a wildlife officer I need to ask if they've had any sightings.

Maybe, sometime soon, I won't have to visit Eagles Nest at Dollywood to look at them anymore.

You're preaching to the choir!

I don't condone killing any birds of prey, especially not bald eagles. There's no reason to ever kill them...they don't taste good, they're not pests. The only reason is to be an ashole.

And...are there any MothWomen? Or can MothMan date outside his species?
