Poll: DD's 6th grade graduation dress
Alright. More than 32 dresses later we've narrowed down Ivy's 6th grade graduation dress to these two options. Opinions? Is strapless not appropriate? It doesn't look tasteless in person and I'm the first to restrict what she wears. Option #2 is only a real option if I can get some ink stains out.

I love #1. I personally would put a cardigan, maybe cropped, over it for a school function.

They've both nice, but I lean towards the first one.

A friend mentioned adding ribbon to #1 to make straps. We both liked that idea a lot.

I just remembered that we went to my niece's 6th grade graduated last week and she wore the exact same dress (pink on white) with a pink cropped cardigan. I thought she looked lovely, age appropriate, and school function appropriate.

I'll be the odd one out and say #2 but I do see the ink stains you mean and think #1 is nice. I like the idea of little cardigan or shrug over it.

1.
As a whole, I like the design of 2 better, but those spaghetti straps just mess up the look. If that dress had wider straps, I'd go for that.

How funny. My only reservation with a cardigan or something along those lines is it is already really hot here and the ceremony will be in an auditorium with no air that gets humid.
I didn't notice how out of place those straps are until I took pics. That's kind of why I bought both dresses, so we could take them home and evaluate.

I don't know if I'd dress a girl that young in a strapless dress - it seems too mature. Not that it's revealing, because it's not, but because if there are breasts, it then requires a strapless bra and if there are not, there's not enough to hold it up, and I could see it being awkward. To me, a strapless dress is something to be worn by grown women with grown figures. I wore my first at 16 or 17 and I still didn't have enough to hold it up, as a very petite late bloomer. A cardigan would help, but I really think she needs more of a little girl style of dress, ie. this:

#1 is the winner. I don't really see an issue with the strapless. She looks very cute and age appropriate IMO.

I like #1 better. She looks more comfortable wearing it, for one thing.

At first when she picked it out I was opposed to strapless. I felt it was too grown up. But on it looks very tasteful and fits great. She has a strapless bandeau bra under and when she moves nothing moves in the wrong way. I think if we add ribbon straps there wont be an issue.
She is between sizes, girls/juniors. She is 5'1" with a figure and little girl stuff just doesn't look right anymore. A high neckline like that also isn't comfortable. There is no room for her (albeit smaller) breasts and she feels trapped.

1. That's a really cute dress. I'm trying to visualize it with the ribbon straps...if it would possibly too oddly interrupt the style, and it's a hard call. My vote is to definitely give that a shot. Might really work, and you can always remove them if not.

I feel the same way. If I loosely stitch in ribbon straps they can easily be removed. Black satin in a good width could be just what the dress needs.
My fat thumb will make mistakes.

I love both dresses, but there's something I can't put my finger on that's not sitting right with me about strapless for a 6th grade graduation. I agree that there's nothing "wrong" with the dress, as far as it looking inappropriate on her, but given her age and the function, I'd probably be inclined to have her wear a shrug or try the straps.

#1 is adorable, but I also agree a shrug or cardigan would be ideal. Maybe you can find a very lightweight or sheer one that wouldn't be too hot?

I love the way #1 looks on her. That being said even thought the dress absolutely fits appropriately, she needs a shrug or cardigan over it. Children's Place and Target have short sleeved, light weight regular length and cropped cardigans/shrugs in all colors that I bought for my daughters to wear over their spaghetti strap dresses and tank tops for school (policy forbids any strappy tops on dresses or shirts) and they look age and school appropriate while still being comfortable. You can do a seach online and find them super cheap too. A white or back one would be just fine and she could incorporate it into other outfits as well.
Your daughter is lovely! Congrats on her graduation.

I prefer #2. It's just cuter IMO. But if the ink doesn't come out, then I would go w/ something else.
I don't love the idea of anything strapless bc what if she has a wardrobe malfunction during the event and is embarrassed in front of everyone?
She is adorable, tho! Great taste in clothes, too. Congrats to her (and you)!

At her age, strapless and thin spaghetti straps are not age appropriate, imo. And unless she wears #1 with a shrug or sweater, it is not school function appropriate.
I know how hard it is to find age appropriate for girls her age. Been there, done that. We often had good luck with Land's End dresses.
Congrats to your daughter. She's lovely!
