Well I left it a week, thought about it and then tried the dress on again and didn't like it as much. So I took it back and exchanged it for a different one.

Now I took your advice and went for something fitted rather than floaty - something I never do.

It is tight (:S) but I felt pretty good in the shop when I tried it on - the trouble is, as with any outfit, I then see myself in a photo and have second thoughts! So this is a possibility. I also ordered a few dresses online to try out (and I'll post those up next week when they arrive and then I guess I'll have to make a decision!

Please be honest. If I look like a stuffed pig or if it is simply unflattering please say so! I have a month to return it.

Anyway, here's the first for now (I took them on the webcam) and here is the link to the dress because I think you can see the true colour a bit better:

You really have a lovely, voluptuous figure. TRULY! Beautiful.

But...

I think you can have too much of a good thing. I think the dress is too low cut, and the puffed caplet sleeves aren't doing you any favors. I'd like to see you a bit more tailored up top. Not covered, just tailored.

I like the waistline of the dress. Your butt looks fab.

Thanks

Yeah every dress I've had (and some tops) has always been very low cut like that. Not intentionally - its just thats how v-necks that fit seem to sit on me

The other dresses are coming from a shop specifically for women with big boobs so maybe some of them will sit higher (although even from there they seem to come right down low).

I agree with RCW about that dress. I think the caplet sleeves make both you and the model look round-shouldered. One thing I've learned to do is go up a size in fitted dresses, especially dresses with ruching or pleats. Tight doesn't do me any favors.

All that being said, I looked on the Coast website and saw a couple that might be more flattering:

I agree w/ RCW. Also, the one place the dress is loose - in your belly - it has extra material sticking out. Not your stomach, but the dress itself. I know that's where I'm most self-conscious, so I would be less comfortable with the fit.

I also agree it looks great on your backside though!

I'm guessing you're very short-waisted/short-torsoed? I have trouble telling from photos of people, but being short waisted and just generally having a short torso means I can get extra bulges of material if something doesn't fit me just right and things end up lower cut because apparently my boobs are supposed to be about 3" lower than they are, yet they seem to be in a very normal location!

I really like the purple dress mrspoppers posted!
I think you look great in the dress you posted, and the color is beautiful! I do see what RCW says, but I still think it looks great.

I actually tried on the redish dress mrspoppers posted and it looked awful. It's obviously made for someone much taller as it fell to a funny length and didn't sit nicely at all.

I didn't go for the purple one - though I do like it because its a jersey dress and I find those just always seem to cling in the wrong places. You really have to have a flat, smooth figure for those. And also - it just seems a bit... casual/very ordinary.

I did go up a size in the dress I bought but then it was just huge on me :S

Sigh. Why is this so hard!?! If the dresses I ordered also don't work out I've exhausted all my options really. I'll just have to wait and see.

But, its fun to post pictures so I'll link to you guys the ones I've ordered. Their shop near me is tiny and never has many sizes in so I just went ahead and ordered 5 and either 4 will be going back or all of them for a full refund. (Just looked and 2 of the dresses I ordered were in the sale and are not on the website anymore so I can't link them)

Stripe Hem Dress by Pepperberry

Though not too sure about the bottom stripes and now since you've mentioned cap sleeves it may not be best for me. I liked the purple and thought the general shape was quite elegant.

The last one seems a bit casual, but it's pretty!
The lace dress is beautiful and should suit you.
The first one is nice, but the material is kind of shiny in the pics and I'm not wild about the pattern. It may look great on you, though.
Really, worst case scenario you wear what you have. Even if it's not a perfect fit in every sense, it still looks really good on you.

Love the silhouette of the first purple one, not sure about the horizontal stripe though. Love the second lace dress a lot! Cap sleeves aren't inherently bad on you...as long as they're not puffy.

kat, I'm the last person to be giving fashion advice (I can barely dress myself), but I just had to say you've got an awesome figure!!

I actually love the purple dress and don't think it's too casual or ordinary! I think the ruffles give it some flare, the color would look gorgeous against your skin and the diagonal ruching would do great things for your waistline. It would be perfect to have in your wardrobe because it's so versatile...it could easily be dressed up with beautiful earrings and fancy pumps. And if you're worried about the clinginess, why not try Spanx?

I agree with this a lot. The ruching is usually very flattering. I think this could be a great fit for you. And while you've got a point about jersey dresses, I find dresses cut like this are pretty universally flattering. Spanx or similar undergarments are a great suggestion.

I actually love the one you already have and how you look in it. How do you plan to wear your hair?

I thought jersey was considered a great option for all figure types -- universally flattering and with the right cut, can disguise areas we'd prefer not to call attention to? I think that purple one is a great option. Bonus: jersey is very comfortable. If it's not a formal wedding, I think that dress would be just fine.

Kat, I think that latest dress you bought looks way better on you than the model. And your butt looks fab!

Yep, definitely worth trying. I've got a few dresses cut similar and they are very flattering even in jersey.

You could always wear a cami under any dress that is too low cut. Or if it is a wrap-style you can use a pretty pin and pin it a little more closed

You've got a great figure

i really like the purple dress mrspoppers posted!! i agree with the person that said you could pair a darker dress with nude or lighter shoes (tastefully done of course).

i think the dress you had/have was fine except it seemed a little small based on the crease across your lap area. that's a tell tell sign of a dress being a little snug.

i'm really into solids right now and jazzing it up with pretty accessories and nice nails. i wouldn't want to have on a snug dress at a wedding, how can you enjoy cake and wine?

Thanks everyone.

I have worn spanx/tummy holding in bridget jones knickers before and they do wonders for your tummy and hips. However. They are darned uncomfortable after a while, can get a little hot, but the one thing that really puts me off, is that they smooth everything out - and push it up over the top so you end up with this weird, unflattering bulge at the top of the knickers under your boobs. I've found that even with sizes that aren't particularly tight. Or is it just me this happens to? Hmm.

I will probably try the jersey dress though. I do like the colour.

i personally love jersey. i feel like it's flattering on any figure and shows your curves in a much more "grown and sexy" way than a plain old tight aka fitted dress.

helping someone else shop is fun (and cheaper than shopping for myself)!

carry on...
