Regardless of what you think about Bloomberg's proposal, this Q&A is laughable.

Coke executive answers questions about sugary drinks

My favorite line by her:

Q: But critics call soft drinks "empty" calories.
A: A calorie is a calorie. What our drinks offer is hydration. That's essential to the human body. We offer great taste and benefits whether it's an uplift or carbohydrates or energy. We don't believe in empty calories. We believe in hydration.

I agree that's some crazy spin by Coke but I have to admit, an icy cold Coke or Pepsi is the first thing I reach for after a race, for the caffeine and carbs. Also when I'm hungover, for the same reasons

So in that sense, they're actually not 'empty calories'.
I don't think of soft drinks as thirst-quenching. Sugar water doesn't really get rid of thirst.
That's some spin there.

We're all about hydration.

Who could doubt it?

I found it amusing because it seems her family only drinks coke products. No milk for those kids.

Woohoo!! Now I can drink 64oz of Coke a day and stay hydrated. Man, all that time I wasted drinking water.

Blech. When I was working in an office that had access to free soft drinks, it was hard to not have one a few times a week. In the first year I worked there, I gained a TON of weight. As soon as I cut the habit and went to water only, it came off fairly easily. It's definitely empty calories. They're full of isht.

Any liquid hydrates you...so she wasn't technically wrong. Empty calories are a problem for most sedentary people though. I don't want gov't regulating our caloric intake, but we should all evaluate whether we should be drinking calories that don't offer us any nutritition in return.

Yea that interview was funny but Coke really does offer hydration. It's the only carbonated drink that I crave. I only drink it once a month or every few months, sometimes more often. I don't understand how people can drink soda everyday. It's pretty bad for you. But it's easy for me not too since I only have the craving once in while. But when I do, it's sooo good.
Honestly, what do they want her to say? I would talk out of my azz too if I was getting paid the kind of money she is. Does anyone really believe she drinks all that in one day? Or that she runs straight to McDonald's after her sons practice to get him a Powerade? I don't.

She's trying to keep her job.
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
Coke isn't hydrating. Its a diuretic. It has water in it but make you thirsty in the long run.
Does anyone else get crazy-hyper or have hiccups after drinking soda? I have both, even though I drink coffee daily.

No, I just have to pee... and burp
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
Yes!

The burping!

Also, it burns going down.
