So what is an introvert?
I'm not shy at all. I love talking to strangers. I can strike up a conversation with anyone and talk for 30 minutes. I enjoy the activities I do. I thought that made me an extrovert.
But at the same time I have spent all day (with the exception of walking the dog, walking the cat and shopping) watching movies by myself. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I hate going to parties or out with groups of people. (movies are okay, and plays) So I'm an introvert? It just occurred to me today how much it DOESN'T bother me to be at home by myself with a good movie.
I have to go take an online test, I guess. But what about you? What would you most like to be doing on a Saturday night?

I know I'm not an introvert by nature. I am one by nurture. I'm not totally extroverted either....maybe I'm a mediumvert?
I went out for drinks and dinner with coworkers last night and had fun. Tonight I'm posting on NC, LHC, and surfin' the Web and having a good time too....??

I'm just like you . I don't mind talking to people and make friends very easily, but I prefer to spend time alone. Extroverted people get their energy from others, while introverts "recharge" by being alone. Have you ever noticed that being in large groups of people is exhausting?
Today I spent all day with my cousin just hanging out at my house and watching movies and cooking. Sounds like a good day to me . Usually Saturday nights I'm home, and on the rare occasion at a friend of mine's house with 1 other friend. Very small groups = awesome

I'm definitely an introvert. I head straight for corners and off to the side rather than the center of a room. I don't like making small talk, but like most any introvert, I can have long conversations with people I know. I can't wrap my head about going to a party for fun. Staying home and playing around in the kitchen, watching TV, reading, and any other type of downtime are what I think of as enjoyable.

I'm so happy to read this!!
Tonight I watched Star Trek (Zachary Quinto, yum) and had a couple Mike's Hard Lemonades and I thought, "Am I supposed to feel like a loser because this is my Saturday? I love this."

I consider myself to be an extrovert, but I really enjoy alone style down time. I don't think that all extroverts are people centered 24/7.
Oh, and I put that movie in when I came home. Quinto, Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Pine. Yes.
Siri types my posts for me.

This is exactly right. I love being around people and making new friends but would rather recharge that energy by a glass of wine and a good book.

I'm definitely an introvert. I don't think people who meet me at first get that impression though. I've gotten a fair share of flak over being introverted. I hate cocktail parties, chitchatting, etc. Give me a good book anytime. I do have a few very close friends that I enjoy being with, but it took me a lot of time to feel comfortable with them.
Is being shy the same as being introverted? A shrink once told me I'm shy.

I'm an introvert, for sure! I love spending time alone, and hanging out in small groups... If not small groups, then at least slightly larger groups of people I do know fairly well. In that case, I am very talkative and don't mind being the "center of attention" for a few minutes. But not for too long, or I get uncomfortable. If I don't know some of the people in the group, I'm much more reserved and tend to hold back a little more. As a whole, I find being around other people to be utterly exhausting, most of the time. Give me my dog, or one or two close friends, and maybe a movie, and I'm happy!
I think being shy is pretty different from being an introvert. Of course you can be introverted and also be shy, and it's presumably more common than a shy extrovert, but I wouldn't consider them to be a package deal. Shyness, to me, alludes to social awkwardness and a fear of talking to other people (I'm not saying you possess either of these qualities, curlypearl!). Introversion seems to refer to contentedness with solitude, and a more introspective point of view.

I'm an introvert, and I'm afraid that I'm a bad example of one. I find that most introverts genuinely do like being around other people, but prefer to be alone. I'm just misanthropic.

I'm closer to the middle between the two than a lot of people, but I'm definitely an introvert. Same thing - I recharge with alone time.
I love my friends, seeing them, and if I have energy built up can even greatly enjoy being out in a crowd. But home alone is how I recharge. It's hard to explain what makes them that way, but the relationships I've had which have gone anywhere were with men who could be present and I could still recharge my energy levels, instead of their presence wearing me out.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

Dyed in the wool introvert here. I prefer my own company 99% of the time, although I'm not shy at all, and I have lots of work and school interaction. I really crave being alone, doing my own thing when I do have free time.

Introvert. I think being an introvert does not mean you are necessarily shy but you reenergize by inward thinking or by being by yourself. I enjoy parties and people but if I end up doing those things for an extended time I then need days by myself. I have friends who are amazed that I have no issues when B travels. I definitely miss him but I have no issues with extended periods of being alone. I prefer to clothes shop alone.

SO's daughter is a true introvert. The way he explained it is not that introverts are shy. He said extroverts arent exactly outgoing & partying all the time either, theyre fine to be alone, but extroverts get energized around other people. Introverts arent always solitary & shy all the time either, but being around other people drains their energy. I can definitely tell the difference between my kids (extroverts) and his (introvert). Mine are psyched to play with her all day & at bedtime are wound. She is psyched to play with them too but by 7pm is drained & wants to be alone in her room.
Hope that makes sense
