Pie question

I am going to make a pie for a friend of mine who is going through a tough time. His favorite is strawberry rhubarb, but since I don't have access to rhubarb right now, I was thinking of making a strawberry apple.
I have looked up a couple recipes, and the filling consists of apples, strawberries, a little flour and a little sugar. That sounds like not enough to me.. Does this sound right? I've never made a pie before so I'm not sure I'd know if this was sufficient. I feel like some other ingredients should be involved.
Thanks

That's all it should be. Fruit, some sugar, thickener, and sometimes acid.
I wouldn't do strawberry and apple though. I don't think they make a very good combination. I'd just do either all strawberry or all apple. And if you can't get really good strawberries, I'd go with apple.

Why not the strawberry apple?

I don't know much about pie, but I had heard this was a good one! He isn't a huge fan of overly sweet things, but I know the second favorite is apple. I'm just worried that I won't be able to make a classic über tasty.

You're welcome! I just don't find the flavors and textures work together that well. If you're fond of the pairing, by all means go for it, though.
Oh no, well I don't want to make him a gross pie and make him feel worse lol!
Are the strawberry and apple on their own relatively sweet? I just couldn't think of a reasonable replacement for rhubarb..

Rhubarb is much more tart than apples.
Strawberries by themselves make delicious pie. So do strawberries and blueberries.

I ate strawberry pie for the first time yesterday and can I just say it's my new favorite over apple.
I just want to do what I want to do when I want to do it.
