Help! What birth control
I am 33...don't have kids...never want them. I have paraguard IUD now this is my second one...the first one was fine, this one is giving me crazy heavy periods and spotting...it's all like half the friggin month. So I was thinking about mirena, tubal ligation or essure, which is permanent too. Anyone have any experience with this stuff...any suggestions. This has got to stop!!
Thanks I'm advance!

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

I had Essure performed a little over three years ago.
I would not reccommend that you sterilize yourself, under those circumstances, but of course that's for you to decide.
But so far, the essure has worked OK for me.

Dr goes in with hysteroscope (transvaginally) and occludes the fallopian tubes.

Since you've already had Paragard with relatively good results, I'd go for Mirena. Once the hormones kick in, you get very light periods. It's almost a dream come true.
There are definitely side effects with tubal ligation (I can't remember if they're similar with essure) so you should really do some research before going that route. Plus, it's a surgical procedure, which is no fun.

I had Paragard for 12 years and then had Mirena inserted. LOVE Mirena. I don't tolerate hormones well but do great with Mirena. I haven't had a period since it was inserted. Had 2 days of very light spotting last week.. first time in 3 years. I will be replacing it early if the spotting becomes routine.

I had a tubal ligation a little over a year ago and haven't had too many adverse side effects. I had never had surgery before so healing was a bit rough for me--my belly button hurt/was tender for at least a week or 2. Since the surgery though I have had insanely heavy periods. In the first 3 or 4 days I soak through an overnight pad in an hour. I feel perfectly fine, no cramps, no fatigue, and no pain which is surprising considering how much I'm bleeding. This is the first month where I haven't had the ridiculously heavy flow (thank God).
Blame it on the cell phone...

No side effects w/ Essure and it's all done vaginally. No recovery time. No pain (other than maybe a day of slight cramping for some women).

I had the Paraguard for a year and a half. I had horribly heavy periods, headaches, cramps, 20 lbs of weight gain, and ended up with
p.i.d.
Hormones are impossible for me. The last time I tried Yaz BC I have PMDD, and that was a bad experience too.
I won't do a tubal ligation BC I have enough problems with hormones and my period. When my mom had it done, yes, it made all that worse.
I finally got a diaghram a few months ago (yay!). For me, its been the best form of birth control I've had. The sizing process was awkward, and it took a couple of practices for me to learn to use it, but now its so easy. There's no harm in leaving it in for a while, so sometimes I'll put it in if I think we might get frisky. If we don't, I remove it later. No big deal. It doesn't irritate or bother me at all. No side effects.
I dont use spermicide (bc those chemicals are harsh) but I track my cycle so we are extra careful on fertile days, less when its safe, and I can use it on those last couple days of my period to reduce the mess.

I've heard of people having a "syndrome" after tubal ligation. Man I hate this...guys have it so friggin easy. The Essure looks like a very interesting option tho.

The only reason I don't want to do that is because my body clearly did not like having the iud. I think it was against having something foreign implanted. I personally didn't want to go through that again.

This sucks! I'm gonna have to go to my Gyno..ask her and figure out a better alternative. This IUD is driving me nuts...I can't handle the periods!

I had a tubal in November during a csection. I had post partum bleeding for a few months. Stopped in March, started again first week of April and it's been ypretty constant since. It will be pretty heavy as well but almost constant spotting with just one or two days reprieve . Sigh... Used to be very regular.

@ Spider and Subbrock and any other boardie who had a tubal within the last 5 yrs:
Why didn't you choose Essure? My gyn gave me the option of either but said Essure was the better choice. What did your gyns say?

I think a lot of people are freaked out by the notion of the coil being placed and then just staying there. I've also heard lots of people say things like "but what if it gets loose and punctures something?" Not sure if that applies to anyone here, just people I've spoken to IRL.
I plan to get Essure this year sometime (I kinda put my whole life on hold for grad school, but now I'm done).
@SL5000 How was the confirmation test after you got Essure? I've heard it's worse than the procedure itself.

Worse than the procedure? No, it was just a regular x-ray...doctor presses on your abdomen for a few seconds.
The procedure was a piece of cake, too. It takes 10 minutes, no pain, no incisions, no bleeding.
