Allergic to Meat: Lone Star Tick May Make Vegetarians of Some - Yahoo! News

This whole thing is so bizarre, I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming as I was reading it late at night. But now I think I was bit by one. I feel too bad to get into the symptoms now but was wondering if anyone else has it? What are your symptoms? IDK if I should report this to the health dept or what. I'm making a dr appt tomorrow. I haven't heard of any cases in Ohio but I guess Ohio is in the Bible Belt (?). I live in a rural area and tics are everywhere esp this season. My pets are treated but they have them. I've picked one off me. I'm so freaked out but feel almost too poorly to be freaked out. I think this latest spell is over so I'm going to go lie down. I thought to ask here so I could see what all areas are being hit. May be something else i have but the symptoms add up. I've also felt hazy irritable and almost confused the past few days and others have had this as well so thought it was a virus.

Ohio isn't in the Bible Belt, which is considered to be most of the southern US. In the article it says the symptoms of a bite are typical of any other allergic reaction to food (in this case meat) such as hives and anaphylactic shock. Seriously, if you were experiencing anaphylactic shock, you would know it.

You may want to still se a Dr. just in case you do have a virus.

plus Ohio is one states where the bug lives. IDK why they used the term Bible Belt to begin with since the meaning of it seems to vary, instead of being specific. I do have food allergies plus a poison ivy allergy so I get hives every summer around this time. It's a cluster allergy and I'm not as allergic to poison ivy as much as I am mango for instance because it contains less of the chemical that triggers the reaction. I already had hives so IDK now the exact cause. My other symptoms are like that of a stomach virus - I have an appetite but I'm repulsed by food as I'm eating it particulary meat and feel really bad afterward, sick to my stomach and just extremely bad. Then I get better and go through it again.

Anaylactic shock is the most severe reaction caused by this allergy. Not all food allergies and very few cases of this caused anaylactic shock. You should read first before spreading that kind of misinformation, and who are you to say I don't have it? Maybe I don't, I'm just worried at this point about whatever it is that's making me feel bad. I was asking a specific question, not to be internet diagnosed.

You know IDK what it is with people's attitude on this board. The hair sections and such are so nice. I guess I didn't notice it before because I haven't spent as much time here before. I wouldn't be now but I'm sick and now I'm sick and tired of people's attitude problems. If you're going to give out wrong information with a high and mighty sarcastic attitude to someone who is sick and stressed no less, you're going to get called on it. If anyone has any actual experience or with this or useful advice they'd like to share please PM me because I have no wish to return here.

People can get snippy off the hair boards, but we also fight there, too. Mostly about hair types and when someone argues that she really has one type of hair instead of another, because she believes it to be "better." This happens even with wavy v. curly, I promise.

Anyway, Midgi's not really argumentive, ime. I live in Ohio too, and I really hate parasites, which is why I don't walk in the woods behind my house ---- I'm afraid of ticks landing on my dogs or me. Also, it has been very hot lately, which certainly takes away my appetite: have you seen a doctor and had the site where you think the bite might have occurred examined? It sounds like it would be helpful.
