Sudden Irrational Urges
In another thread I read that someone had an urge to drive into oncoming traffic, someone else admitted that they have had that urge, too. I've never had that, but I once was trimming my eyebrows and had the sudden urge to cut off my eyelashes. and once I was crossing a bridge carrying my dog and had the sudden urge to toss her over.
Obviously we don't do these things.
What sudden irrational urges have you had?

I had the urge to relax my hair earlier this week.

A few weeks ago my cats were almost out of food. While I was filling the bowl, I wondered how long they could actually go without eating and what they would do if I just stopped feeding them?
Of course I would never do that, but I was a little disturbed that I even thought it. Glad I'm not alone

They just might prove to be the missing link 'cause they'd evolve and grow thumbs aka tuna dispensers.
I had the urge the other day to let my inside cat go out. She was drying me crazy and I was ready to pull my fur out. It might seem normal to let a cat out but 1) she's disabled - blind in her left eye, deaf in her left ear, partially paralyzed on the left side and her head is tilted at a strange angle due to a stroke. She's never been outside in the last 3 years. Someone or something would get her and she can't defend herself, climb a tree or even run straight. Her left side is weaker so she runs in circles when she gets scared...but I sure wanted to toss her out on her ear!

I too think about crossing the median into oncoming traffic.
I think about jumping off of high places (bridges, buildings, ravines, niagara falls and places like that).

I get the driving off the road or into oncoming traffic thing when I'm under a lot of stress or feeling anxious.
I've thought about not feeding the cats, or letting them (a bunch of house cats) loose to fend for themselves.
In meetings, I'll sometimes make an unpleasant observation about someone's appearance or behavior and then I'll get an urge to speak of it out loud, or even yell it.
Or if I'm sexually attracted to a person I'm meeting with, I'll get an urge to say or do something about it.
Sometimes I think about taking off all my clothes at work.
These thoughts are basically my mind wondering "what would happen if I ... ?" and then playing it all out.

Me, too! Especially the yelling things out! I've wanted to slap people in meeting, too, just to see what would happen.
And all of these things only occur when I'm anxious or stressed.

Urges? Hm how about jumping out of my seat and attack certain people with knife, fists and teeth? Kinda worrisome sometimes, I have to admit

The traffic one seems to be pretty common. I've definitely felt that one, or to continue driving straight while turning.
When I was younger I'd always have the urge to grab/touch hot curling irons, boiling water, hot stoves, griddles....
I think there's a little bit of self-destructiveness in everyone, but for some it actually manifests itself...

I get these urges too. For the longest time I thought it was just me and that I was insane.
I have no idea how to explain it though. I wonder what is their purpose? Maybe it's just a random thought and you're just curious? I have no idea!

Wow... Y'all crazy...
.
.
.
And so am I.
I get the traffic thing, the jumping thing, the touching hot objects thing.. Harming an annoying person. I'm pretty sure we'd never act on these impulses..
Pretty sure.
PRET-TY sure. LoL!

One urge, which I cannot understand or explain is to do a head stand. I've had this urge occasionally throughout my life.
I tried it once a few years ago, and couldn't manage it.. could see myself getting hurt trying again.
Thinking maybe I just need to hang upside down for a while on one of those inversion tables or something. hmm.

I often want to jump from a height into a body of water. I think I'd survive and I'm a good swimmer, but I was too afraid of finding this impulse irresistible to join my ex in a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.
All those voices calling out from the water,"Join us......... "

You should learn how! It's not too difficult to do a supported headstand, and you can work your way up to it slowly.
I do these regularly now, I think it took me 3-4 months to learn how, build strength and confidence.

I can't say I've ever felt anything like that. Maybe you all are possessed. Or maybe I am, being the outsider here. I've heard someone mention the traffic thing, an urge to drive into a semi.

When I was opening my water bottle just now, I got the urge to squirt it all over User Lady's chair.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!
The other day I was throwing away my ice coffee cup and had an urge to dump the remaining ice over my officemate's head. For no reason.

With my cat, it was either squeezing him or tossing him real high up over the fence over to the neighbour's yard.

Sometimes when I'm having an especially boring conversation, I get the urge to scream in frustration and run away to freedom. rarely do I act on this urge.
