My conservative friends are strangely quiet. It reminds me if the day after Obama was elected, like shock or something. They were so confident this would be overturned!

I know, many were so sure. Cocky even. Oh well, too bad, so sad, I'm glad.

So all those states who have sat on their assets since 2010 need to get up and get to work. Stop playing games and do the right for the people and not just themselves or corporations for a change. I'm interested to see how Romney spins this! Get the popcorn ready.

He's going to overturn it his first day in office. I heard him say that with my own ears!

My cousin crosses the line to offensive- I'm not sure I really want to deal with it. (But it probably would be entertaining)

You know, speaking only for the Republicans that I know on FB that are friends and acquaintances of mine, I don't think it's wrong at all. They have been posting truly vile stuff about Obama for three years and yesterday they really WERE having a conniption fit, so no, I don't fee like it's wrong.

Yes, that's the talking point du jour all over right wing radio/blogosphere/FB today. The fact that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court says that it's a tax and tax not a mandate doesn't mean that President Obama or the congress said that it was.

I'm not much for public gloating, so I'd say no, it isn't right to celebrate in the face of opposing party unhappiness. Also, the war for healthcare isn't won yet; this is just a battle along the way.

However, I also wish they would refrain from the same......as Boehner advised when he presumed they'd win.

Agreed - I pride myself on being a gracious winner (albeit a very sore loser).

As for the Court's ruling, what do people think their Medicare and Social Security contributions are? There's a reason they call 'em payroll TAXES. (And since Medicare recipients get 40% more in benefits than they actually paid in, it's actually welfare for retirees.)

Keep the goverment's hands off of my Medicare! : )

And the way it is viewed as a tax is pretty complicated, according to legal experts I listened to on the news last night. There's this whole thing about activity versus inactivity.

I read this in the New Republic:

Quote:
The founding fathers, it turns out, passed several mandates of their own. In 1790, the very first Congress—which incidentally included 20 framers—passed a law that included a mandate: namely, a requirement that ship owners buy medical insurance for their seamen. This law was then signed by another framer: President George Washington. That’s right, the father of our country had no difficulty imposing a health insurance mandate.
And this is a good source to understand exactly how the tax/mandate will work. It's actually a pretty small penalty and not a penalty that will be enforced, as I understand it:

How Much Is the Obamacare 'Tax'?

Just to be clear, this is not an original witticism. I read or saw it somewhere (twitter?) but I don't know where it originated!

But I love it too.
