I dont know how true this is, but I heard that before tom cruise, Katie Holmes had her own religion and beliefs. I cant image sometone being willing to completely throwing all that away to follow scientology. She must be to the point she just cant take the craziness anymore.
Or she's 33 and its time for tom to move on.

Pretty sure she was (is?) Catholic.

IDK much about them...but IMO he is too old for her. The significant age difference and the fact he was married before and raised kids w/ someone else is just a bad combination.

It wouldn't surprise me that he's trying to put her is a Scientology school and that's the main reason or final straw for the split. Hasn't he done that with his other two adopted children?
Good for her if that's the case and for fighting him on it.

This makes me a little sad. They look like a really fun, happy couple here

I have never seen pictures of them together and happy and having fun.
I've seen them out jogging and she looking miserable, or them out together and she looking miserable ...and she looking miserable.

Can that really be it, though? She had to have known it was coming.

That's what I'm thinking. She knew he was a Scientologist when she met him, she'd been around Hollywood long enough to know about the bat****tery surrounding Scientology, she knew his kids were going to Scientology school, she had to take classes herself in order to stay in the relationship...but she reproduced with and then married him anyway. And she's going to now complain about all those things she knew about already? That's a remarkable level of stupid.

She looks way old in that pic! And kind of not that receptive to Tom's advances.
There were a few pics of them on GFY that were cute, though.

I don't see happy in this pic. I see discomfort and 'get your bleeping hands off me, please and eye roll'.
I did see happy when they first started dating. I remember interviews where family members said she was obsessed with him as a child. She used to tell them that she would marry him one day. I think she was extremely caught up, had their child, and realized the dream was a nightmare just before the wedding.
Maybe I'm just grumpy. Lol
Worn out iPhone. Need I say more?

Yes I really do. From what I've read, and granted you do have to take newspaper/magazine reports with a grain of salt, but Suri is reaching the age when they start heavily indoctrinating her into the cult. I've also read that Katie has been fighting against it/distancing herself from Scientology for a while now.
I think she is acting now to protect her daughter.

Naive perhaps, and foolish and probably a bit starstruck. But people always think that anyone who gets themselves involved with cults are idiots and yet it still happens. Are all these people just stupid? Or are these creeps very skilled at manipulating, isolating and brainwashing?
It seems to me like she is incredibly isolated, she doesn't appear to have any friends, her career is non-existant (with rumours that he has control over what films she does/doesn't work on) and she is surrounded by his family and friends who all appear to be Scientologists. If thats the case, it's not so easy to break out of a relationship like that, and its one I'd call abusive.
But you never really know what is going on in the marriage, especially a celebrity one. Thats the impression I have gotten reading the various articles that have popped up. Again - it depends how much you trust what is written in the media. It does look like she has hired the very best to take him to the cleaners and make sure he doesn't get joint custody of their daughter.
I also agree that she looks very uncomfortable in those photos.

I think anyone with her resources and level of exposure who falls into a cult is stupid. We're not talking about someone who grew up isolated and new nothing of the world. She was a working actress who had been in the business a while. Naivete at that age and lifestyle is no different than stupidity.
I do agree about how she seems to be now--isolated, no friends, and how difficult it is to break out of that. But getting into it in the first place? That's all on her. That's why it just makes no sense that NOW she's so worried about her daughter and Scientology, when Tom never made his fanaticism a secret.
All that said, better late than never. I hope she succeeds in obtaining sole custody, and that she finds happiness.
Damn, I wish Nicole Kidman would just write a tell-all about her marriage to Tom, already.

I just can't help think of all Nicole Kidman publicly admits having gone through with Keith Urban - standing by him and getting him sober and watching over him to keep him sober. And I think... Really, she and Tom couldn't make it work? This is not a man who seems likely to make a marriage work with any woman.
(But another man? Well, maybe....)

Sorry for the length.
One of my friends was introduced into a cult, in the 60's, by her 2nd husband. She was in her 20's, already had the first of her 5 children. This cult removed most protein from the diets, and put the newer members through rigorous fasts that depleted their mental and physical functions. Don't they all? I will be honest and say that she's a sweet heart, but not known for thinking (before she leaps). It took several years to see the methods used for control, but she did manage to come around and remove herself just before her eldest's children's education started. It's a damn good thing because rigorous physical beatings and extensive labor were used as 'child control'.
I can't help but think of this every time I look at Katie. She has looked so weak and depleted. When reading CC's link about the school Tom (supposedly) wants to send Suri to I was unnerved by reports of extensive manual labor for 6 year olds and mind control (of sorts) being taught as a basic principal. If you can't get a person to bend to your will based on a glance or suggestion you physically grab them, and make them do it?!? I don't think so! I can't help but wonder (speculate) if he used these techniques on her, and if she didn't realize it until she was furthering her own education. I agree, she should have known better and ran because it's known they are bat **** (and more comes to light every day) but I'm glad she's now came to her senses and is removing her child. As they say, hind sight is 20/20.
And Kat, it was basically confirmed that she is protecting Suri from further education on the news tonight.

SL, I've read several articles on it and heard more than one story from a dear friend who works in television, in LA. Some standard practices are known (created by a Sci fi writer, belief in aliens, fasting to work through traumas, belief that one lives several lives, silent births, people follow around members to make sure they don't speak to others, you have to pay thousands to reach each up coming level, etc...) but more and more seems to come out, slowly.
From what I've read people who tried to leak too much info about the church have either disappeared, or been victims of attempted murder. Again, just what I've read.
