teeth grinding nite appliance

hey everyone,
I started wearing a nitetime appliance for teeth grinding in Sept.of last year, It was advised by my periodontist.
long story short , it is the one with the wires, just found out there is one without the wires. any way, when I first started to wear it everything was fine. now, I am getting sore gums, right in the places the wireds are touching. went to my perio. and dentist and asked if they can help me both brushed me off , saying it's not the appliance that it is me brushing hard or I'm looking at my gums too much. do you beleive this???
I can't brush my teeth any gentler , anyways, I tried wearing it again , thinking maybe I'm a nut afterall, and woke up with it hurting were the wires touch, I figured out that when I sleep on my side I am putting my hand under my cheek and it's causing it to push into my gums, It is disturbing my sleep because I am checking myself while sleeping, if that makes sense... Now, I am determined to find a new perio. but, I want an appliance without those wires, I was never given the choice, both say that this wire one is fine. does anyone have any experience with this????
I hate dentist!!!!

I've had various dental appliances (bite plate, mouth guard, several retainers, bleach trays) but none was specifically for teeth grinding. I don't see why they would have to have wires or why the wires couldbn't be adjusted.

What purpose to these wires serve?

Can you just go to another dentist and get a second opinion...then threaten to switch if your current dentist doesn't modify the appliance?

the periodontist and dentist said that the appliance fits fine and that the irritation must be something else. I know it is the appliance, I don't know why I was given the one with wires , I was never given a choice. I told my dentist to refer me to another perio. , he said that this one is covered by my insurance , I said I'm sure my insurance covers other perio.
I hate when I know it's that and they refuse to take me serious, I feel like that it's because I'm a women.. they think it's all in my head. I don't know??
they say it fits fine, but it's not that clear cut, people can be senstive to certain things.

I have a pretty thick but flexible plastic night guard to stop me clenching and grinding. No metal at all.

Get a second opinion, it's obviously not fitting fine if it's rubbing. I don't think their attitude is because you're a woman, its more likely because you're a patient and their dentists.

I had a bite guard for my teeth grinding. It was the same material as the arch of a retainer and it hardly really covered my teeth, just like a centimeter or two. There was only one little metal posty thing that slid between two teeth for me to press on to take it off. I liked it except that they made it too tight and my nails would bend back when I tried to take it off so I stopped wearing it. Then my teeth moved and now I'm SOL.

He said he can barely feel it when it's in and hasn't complained about anything hurting him. He's had it for a little over a year now. I am soooo glad he has the night guard because him grinding and clenching his teeth was causing me to lose sleep.

As far as insurance, it was covered a small amount by our insurance, but I think we still paid $150-200 for it out of pocket.

I had an imprint made of my lower teeth so it's a custom fit. I've already started to put dents in it and I've had it about a month.

I paid £20 for it. The imprints were covered by my dental plan.

I have a bite guard that I was fitted for by my dentist. No wires. It fits pretty snuggly.

I also have a bite guard for grinding my teeth (when I've slept in the room with others, it can be so bad that it wakes other people up), but mine doesn't have wires. It seems like a plastic type material, fits over my lower teeth. I think they were going to try giving me a different kind (one that would essentially move my jaw over a little so my teeth wouldn't touch and therefore wouldn't grind) but that wasn't possible, so they gave me the one I have now. I don't love mine but I know I need it.
