usher's stepson "brain dead" after jet ski accident

did y'all see this super sad story about little 11 year old kyle glover? for some reason i feel extra sad about it. it's so random. i've been curious, one thing i read said people don't ever recover from being "brain dead" but then google searches have stories/blogs where people did recover. it's just so sad and tragic. why were people jet skiing where kids/people were tubing? thank goodness alcohol is not linked to this accident but my goodness...terrible

Yes and unfortunately its not that uncommon, that and drownings at that lake. My friends family member had something similar happen to her, but she survived.
Lake Lanier is a death trap. At least once a week during the summer there are news stories about drownings, accidents, missing people, etc. going down at that lake.

It's very sad.

Many lakes only allow jet skis in certain areas while others have no rules. I used to water ski a lot and had many close encounters with jet skis. Scary stuff!
This story breaks my heart. I take it he's still on life support?

Blame it on the cell phone...
Poor kid...

yes he's still on life support. i was kind of wondering what y'all know about being brain dead and whatnot? is there any chance he can be okay? some stuff i read said absolutely not. some articles make it seem like people can be declared brain dead then come out. i wonder if it was an incorrect diagnosis. i think they keep people on life support so they can make decisions about organ donation too.

i have that i want to be a donor on my license and have told my parents. i even contemplated donating my body to science. my friends mom died of breast cancer and did that but that's the only person i've known to do that.

Those cases of people recovering weren't brain dead--they were probably in a coma or suffered enough brain damage that chances of recovery are very small. There's no recovery from brain death, even involuntary function stop; when a truly brain dead person is on a respirator, the brain essentially digests itself--it's called respirator brain (the respirator doesn't cause the damage).

I don't know the details about Usher's stepson--if he's really brain dead or if he has so little hope of recovery that the family interpret that as brain dead.
Eres o te haces?
i thought this article did a pretty good job of explaining brain dead and coma but not so much vegetative state, which hasn't been used to describe little kyle. i had to look up persistent vegetative state to understand it all.

what really pulled at my heart strings was a video i saw on mediatakeout last night of kyle. it was from last dec around christmas and he was just being a kid and filming himself. it was about 10 mins long and just him goofing around, definitely home video. it's gone from the site now, perhaps out of respect for him and his family but seeing it just made it all seem more sad. he was just a sweet kid that was in a terrible accident.

This poor little boy. I hope his siblings and parents can find peace.

If he is truly brain dead then there is very little chance for recovery. Usually the person is kept on respirator long enough for the family and friends to say their last goodbyes.
Brain death is legal death. Hospitals don't keep people on ventilators indefinitely if they meet the criteria for a brain death diagnosis. They do it for a little while for the family to gather, or to keep things viable for organ donation, but then they turn life support off. If this poor boy is truly brain dead, then he is dead. One doesn't recover from it.

Sad for the family. Especially sad since it happened with a family friend. Awful.
The whole thing is tragic. I hope the family can find peace somehow.
